HID in DRL?

Hey guys,

I wanted to know if putting HID's in my 2011 Esky's DRL would be ok? Like it won't melt anything right? I was going to get a 35w 5202 DDM kit if they were safe for it.

I would suggest running LEDs if your even going to change anything on the DRLs

I was going to put LED's in the parking lights but I've heard of some people putting HID's in the DRL's and can't find out any information from them. It sounds interesting, I may not do it but I'd like to hear if it was possible since they do make such HID kits but not sure if it will melt anything. >.<

I would do led's. I'm waiting for mine to come in bc I already has the led parking And 6k hid fog and head lights on my esky

I believe people have had issues with the plastic cover melting with hids

HIDs are intended to illuminate the road, DRLs are meant to alert others of your presence.

There's just no advantage to having usable light in the DRL slot that I can conceive of, and it would basically be the same as driving around with low beams on but with a lot more glare ... in which case, might as well drive with the low beams on.

LEDs are white and bright enough to function very well as DRLs ... and the upshot is that it's a simple bulb swap.

It's a 5201 so a 5202 would fit actually... I changed my DRL's and Parking lights to SMD-LED's and i'm really happy with how it looks.

Sumo, what are those LED's in the first pic? I want something that looks bluish like that.

I have installed 55W 10000K hids in my fogs and they are awesome. The color has been washed out due to the high wattage but it still has a sweet blue tint. I would want some bright blue DRL's to match that which is why I wanted to go HID to get the color temp I wanted.

It's a 5201 so a 5202 would fit actually... I changed my DRL's and Parking lights to SMD-LED's and i'm really happy with how it looks.

Those LEDs look good Sumo.

OP, HIDs will melt the housing.

You only need resistors if they are blinkers. DRLs don't need them.

I will take one when I go outside next time but I can't promise the pic will be as good as yours haha. The DRL is the only one on during the day and then at night the parking light at the top and the low beam at the bottom is on.

I heard they stay on (dim) when the truck is turned off. Do you have them in your burb Robbie? And if so what did you buy? By the way my esky tails look and work great thanks to you!

Felix link me to the exact LED's you have in the parking light. I don't want to get these only to find out they don't fit cause they are too long.


And since HID's aren't a good idea I will get this in the blue version.

mine stay on just fine? They are in the wife's burb, yep. Bought the 5k V-LED ones.

Blue? I guess if you want the tickets. I personally don't think anything other than white and/or amber looks good. These white with "hints of blue" drive me up a wall. Anything beyond 5k is just too much.

they are 48smt switchback leds i got from autolumination.com. They alternate white/amber when signaling. They stay white with park lights on.
