I guess i could of posted this in the XL area, but seems there isn't much action there so here goes here. I purchased a 2002 Yuk XL 2500 w/8.1 from a friend a few months ago. Great vehicle with 58,000 miles. When he bought the vehicle new, he had 22" (Oasis Edge) put on with 305/45/22 tires. Per Discount Tires, he bought a new set of tires in '05 which are what is on there now. Goodyear Fortera SL Edition. Load range: XL. I think there are around 29k on this set. The vehicle set idle about 4 days and when i went to get it Tuesday, the front left tire was low so i assumed a small leak and went to Discount. Nothing found but while there, the tire salesman said these type of tires shouldn't be on this 3/4 ton vehicle. Not made for it! Too heavy a vehicle for this type of tire. Now i'm confused. I like the look and want to keep it but don't want to take a chance. Two tires are showing tread wear and some dry rotting on the sides so getting close to making a change. Is this all true what i was told and should i go to an all terrean tire and lose the "look"? Alternatives if so? Sorry so long and hopefully someone can help. Thanks in advance.

xl are heavier load range than P... they are NOT a 'real' truck tire like an LT.

if you USE the truck like a 3/4 ton vehicle, get LT tires. If you use it like a really big car, no heavy loads or trailer, xl are fine

Thanks for the responses. The Yuk will be used like a "big car" most of the time. I do have a 26 ft boat (5000 lbs) but trailering happens once or twice a year. I do want to keep the look it has with the 22" if there isn't a weight issue with the 3/4 vehicle. The wheels are starting to show some "pitting" but nothing to worry about right now. The Bull and Nerf bars were put on by him when the vehicle was new. Looks a little different and some will like and some won't but since i hit a deer with my 94 Chevy truck a month ago ($3300 damage) i will leave the bull bar in place to protect the Yukon.
Another pic of the "big ***" bull bar.

Is this something that happened because it was an XL, or would this have happened with a reuglar Yukon?
