Greetings from Charlotte,

long time lurker on the forum, first time poster.

I've had this 1995 4x4 two door Tahoe since 2012. 5 speed manual which as far as I can tell is pretty rare, considering I have never seen another in person (although I have online). My understanding is these were frequently government trucks bought for fire stations or forest service use. Bought it from upstate SC, it was the previous owners hunting truck that had a pretty beat up interior but thankfully he did a lot of good drivetrain maintenance the and kept excellent records which today, almost thirteen years later, I'm super thankful for.

While the ODO shows 261K now, according to the previous owner, the engine was rebuilt around 190K. He put a suburban rear end with 98K miles in at the 212K mark, and a full clutch kit at 218K. Previous owner deleted the exhaust so it was loud, probably too loud, for many years.

I drove this truck my senior year of high school and all through college, and slowly made cosmetic upgrades. Paint job, painted bumpers, oversized BFG AT tires (that I stole from my brothers two door after he blew the engine in his) mounted on Pacer rims paired with a 2" body lift. Bolt on additions include Westin running boards, Go Rhino bull bar with KC Daylighters and Bushwacker fender flares.

The only drivetrain issue I had was a blown U joint in the driveshaft (at speed, how fun) but once repaired it has been as relaiable as I could have ever asked for. Sadly I had to park the truck for many years as the 9 MPG just were not practical and I was doing a lot of commuting for school and work. Thankfully I was able to keep the truck in a garage for almost 5 years and once life allowed it almost 18 months ago, I was able to bring it back to life.

I replaced the gas tank and fuel sending unit and with a fresh battery, it fired right up. I recently replaced the rotten carpet with MIP flooring from LMC truck with peel and stick sound insulation. I also put new exhaust inlcuding a muffler to make it a bit more practical and replaced the AC top to bottom as the NC summer is unbearable without. Still on the to do list is door hinge pins and bushings and new shocks, but otherwise she runs as well as ever. Will need a transmission tune up at some point as my synch ring in 2nd is grinding on downshift but double clutching or rev matching is working well for now. I suppose if I ever run into major mechanical issues it'll be time for a crate motor, as this one I will never let go of!

I have really enjoyed seeing the different builds on this forum and great tips from all when it comes to getting work done!

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

GREAT sunset photo, but I can't see much of the truck's exterior. How about a few more pics of the outside of the truck?

Yes, for sure, you've put a LOT of work into it, and you appear to live in an area where rust won't totally rot your frame out from under you, so keep it for as long as you can.

Thank you! Hope these do the trick! And you are correct, thankful to be relatively rust free after all this time. Here's a bonus photo of my friend's new Tacoma and my older brothers 98 2 door.

And my other brother's blown out 97 two door that donated the tires.
