I to have a 2018 Chevy Suburban with major paint issues. I have created a Facebook page dedicated strictly to GM paint issues. Please feel free to visit my site and share your issues. Please like post, share post and make comments. I have tagged GM and we need to blow them up.

I have the same issues with my 2018 Suburban. It started in 2020 but Chevy would not help me due to my truck being over 36k. Like my mileage has any effect on my paint…. I got in sort of a bind last winter on the road, Tahoe was covered in salt spray from wind off the ocean so I went to a local modern car wash. Got the premium deal. I was really shocked at how hard those brushes hit the hood and top. I figure if the car before me was coated with mud/sand/crud mine was getting sandpapered. Got lucky that time, looked great and the wax coat was noticeable even. But never again. If you routinely use a carwash like that I'd guess that would cause this damage?

is that a page for everyone to cry? GM is not going to repair paint jobs for vehicles out of warranty, we painted ours and went about our business.
the same thing has occurred on various gm vehicles since they were ever made

I thought GM solved their clear coat issues with the old NBS generations? My 97 tahoe was the factory teal green color and it looked like it had sunburns its whole life. Every year more and more clear would flake off. By the time I traded it a few years ago the roof, hood and top half of the doors were completely flat, no clear. It honestly looked like a cool color until you saw the bottom halves of the doors with remaining clear coat hahah

I do want to get my wifes 17 yukon hood painted since it too is completely faded but paint jobs in CA have def rose over the recent years. Ill probably go to Maaco lol

modern paint is worse than the old stuff, but it has less VOC's. My 17 Tahoe had the roof and hood repainted at 37 months old. There are other groups with similar info. https://www.facebook.com/groups/283992135925288 is one that I have found over the years.

How much did it cost you to have the hood and roof repainted if you don't mind me asking?

I had my hood painted on my 2015 Tahoe last year. My roof is all jacked up as well but can’t really see it so letting it be.

I was recently discussing this topic elsewhere.

I only made time to get 2 quotes

- CARSTAR which is a chain in my area verbally told me they just did a roof and hood about 3 weeks ago. $3300. Now that I think about it they never even sent me an email quote.. I wasn’t a fan of them anyway

- McElroys is a family owned shop, 35+ years, lifetime warranty on their paint and they strip everything to metal. They remove glass and trim, they won’t tape anything. They were at roughly $2000 (I’m doing my own math because I have some extra work in my estimate)

I had my hood painted on my 2015 Tahoe last year. My roof is all jacked up as well but can’t really see it so letting it be.

That’s what I’m doing. I have some rust at about eye Level on my rear quarter panel. They gave me a preliminary quote but I really won’t know how bad it is until they start stripping and cutting the metal.

I’d rather spend the money on the hood and rust repair than the roof

I paid 2k for just the hood. Good shop and it came out perfect, better than the OEM paint. Probably could have gotten $500 cheaper somewhere else though if I didn’t care.

Last December, I had a GM dealership repaint the hood and roof. Came in at $4400, with a life time warranty. I'm hoping the class action against GM will eventually be settled in our favor, to get most (if not all) of this bill covered. But GM continues to fight it and not taking responsibility. Sad American companies will not stand behind their products.
