If you're interested in painting your wheels it's worth a read.. Figured i'd share my experience.

So yesterday, after a full day of prepping and cleaning my rims i get one wheel done.. did it EXACTLY as the hundred tutorials i watched said to do.. leave it till the morning before i do the others to test it.. and i can clean sweep my fingernail right through that SOB.. after re-doing it again i said **** it.. sanded it down as good as i could then i went and bought some Plasti-Dip.. I was skeptical about it until i saw a video from [http://www.dipyourcar.com/ ] on youtube and the guy did his whole car.. hell why not give it a try.. NO Prepping needed, a quick clean and boom ready to spray.. 3-5 minute dry time in-between 3 coats ready to be put on and ride out.. I wish i tried this before i spent 45 bucks on primer/paint/clear coating and 6 hour prepping.. i ended up spending 12 bucks for 2 cans [didnt need the 2nd can]and getting an amazing matte finish, exactly what i was looking for. The lifetime on it is from 6months-1 year and pretty easily washed/scratch resistant.. best part is if you don't like it or it does get scratched, it'll peel right off..

Ouch that paragraph turned out long:
If you are looking into painting your oem wheels until you can afford some nice lookers.. Plasti-Dip is the way to go. 6 bucks a can and i used one can for all 4 wheels[3 coats ea]. after 30 minutes of the wheels being on the truck i was in mud and it washed right off, didn't agitate anything.. pics below.

Knew this guy from my Audi forums... its just plasti dip... and its been around forever, he just recently helped their marketing with his experiment. There are a shit ton of threads up about this here and elsewhere (in other forums) but for the most part everyone I know has had great exp with this. To include myself.

Also check out audizine.com if you want to see the original thread/starting point for that company, or if you just want some extra knowledge on how to paint your wheels (with or without plastidip) because those guys dont mess around when it comes to modding their Audi's
Glad your exp was a good one as well. Chalk it up to plasti-dip.

That's pretty slick. I like that you can just peel it off if you don't like it or it gets messed up and it's cheap. I might do that to my stockers to give it a different look. Thanks for the post. Now I'm thinking of different applications for this stuff.

Looks good Justin. Plasti-dipped my wheels too. Super easy to apply and maintain.

How much did you clean the wheels before doing it? Did you spray behind the wheel too?

plasti dip is great...all you have to do i clean the surface before spraying,....

i painted a sled this winter and it held up great, besides where my knees were on the tank..it peeled off after a 400 mile weekend...

if it is a surface that you arnt touching like wheels and shit, it will be great...do 4-5 coats and you are good..if you screw it up, peel it and re paint it...works great...

if you are masking off an area, you have to peel the tape or whatever you use when it is still wet..or else you will peel all of the work you just did

They sell it at most auto part stores , home depot, lowes, ect. Should be available in black, red, white and clear

Do they sell it everywhere or just online? I think I'm going to do it this weekend.

Yup, in the spray paint section at your local hardware store... ***** been around for a long while.

I sprayed my Audi wheels... hit it with 200 grit and then 800 grit but its not needed I was just being **** about it since it was on my $50K car. Wipe your wheels down with a microfiber before painting to take all the smaller bits off you cant see with the naked eye and just blast. I had a buddy did this on his VW with the wheels still mounted. He cut out cardboard pieces to place in the wheel well (to close the gap so no paint would hit other parts).
