Fuel Injector Cleaner?

Does it really work and do you all recommend using it? If so, which brand would you recommended for a 2007 Yukon Denali? I'm a rookie when it comes to car maintenance and/or mechanics. I just always assumed this was a way for the oil companies to suck another $5 out of ya. But I just ordered my BB tune this morning and I figured I would do any maintenance things I can now while I wait for it to arrive.

I was originally looking at the Chevron fuel injector cleaner but didn't feel like driving back to the Autozone this morning so I figured I'd use what was available at the nearby gas station. I ended up getting the STP version. I'll give Chevron a try next time.

I have always heard Chevron was the best. I have 10 injectors in my V-10

Excursion and it does make a noticeable difference every time I use it.

I need all the help I can get on a 8 mpg vehicle.

The Chevron with Techron isn't bad for a retail purchased pour in the tank product. If you really want to properly clean the fuel injection system you need the proper tools to perform the full service. There's 3 items. Throttle body,and air intake cleaner as well as the more concentrated product that is poured into your fuel tank. You might find a dealer that will sell you the better pour in the tank injector cleaner. Valvoline VPS (Valvoline Professional Service) is good, BG is good. Their most popular is the 44K. MOC Fuel Injector Cleaner and Wynn's.

The professional products have a higher concentration of PBA's and the rest is basically just a delivery agent. The STP and most other retail products are mostly carrier fluid and a little of the actual cleaners PBA.

I remember reading somewhere that GM doesnt recommend using additives to ones engine and i was skeptical to use it but I used it anyways when I had a knocking sound coming from the engine. after about two to three weeks that 'knocking' sound dissapeared and havent hear it since. so now i give it a thumbs up

This is interesting. Mine has about 95k miles on it + its a GM = knocks every cold start.
What additives did you use that seemed to make it better? I'm willing to give this a try

i never heard a knock on my 07 yukon before and it has it has 82k on the clock. I used the chevron one, dont really know the name. a friend of mine have me the bottle he says he uses it alot. didnt really heard or felt any difference for about two weeks after that the knocking sound that had developed dissapeared hopefully it wont come back.

The owners manual for my 2011 recommends using the GM fuel system cleaner at every oil change interval if you do not use top tier fuel. I did a search some time ago and found out the GM Cleaner is the Chevron Techron. I bought the Techron at Walmart. They only had the small bottles that treat about 12 Gal (can't remember exactly) so I put 2 bottles in and filled up. Was about half the cost of the GM branded cleaner.

Seafoam will not work as well as the others in that application. The seafoam product is a multi-use product that is not specifically engineered for that application. In their marketing material it states that it can clean the fuel system, but it really does not have the ingredients that will clean the internal parts in the fuel system including the injectors.

Isn't it funny that when GM has a product with their name on it, it now becomes okay for that type of service. I think some day you will also see GM Transmission Flush, Coolant Flush, Brake Flush and Power Steering Flush. Al lot of dealers are offering these services now along with a warranty coverage from the company that provides the chemical products and the service machines. The dealers make about a 50% margin on these services which adds some labor for the tech and more $ for the Parts and Service Departments.

So this was interesting thread to read through. My 2006 Denali is at just under 93k and im doing everything I can to make sure my rig is in top running shape, especially as I'm nearing 100k. I'll be do for an oil change when I hit 95k which will be in just a couple months. Should I look into this with my next oil change?

What qualifies as top tier gas, out of curiousity, what companies are deemed top tier?

BG products are top o the line for me. Always works well with lubricants and additives. I have had good luck with the Lucas Oil trans and engine additives also.

Chevron, Gumout Regane, Redline Si-1....anything with PEA is good, don't waste your money on anything else

At the dealership I work we sell the BG fuel additive like its going out of style. Also sell a lot of Lucas oil additive.

Ive tried a lot of cleaners, and I think the best one I have used by far is the Gumout. It's an orange bottle and there's a few different ones, high miles , complete fuel cleaner or just fuel injectors
