Can an electric locker or air locker be used in the front diff of a 1994 GMC Yukon and not blow up the diff?

I want to install one on my truck for winter time use. Pretty much only when I get stuck or am heading towards some deep snow :) Not purposefully trying to wreck anything, just for some peice of mind.

I've been through some pretty deep snow and other nasty crap without a front locker in my stock 93 Sierra Z71. The chevy 4x4 system has never let me down. I pulled my buddies buried Mustang out in 2' of snow with 3' drifts. Just tossed it in 4lo and hammered it lol. If you need piece of mind, get good tires. Imo mud tires work really well in snow as they rarely get packed down and turn into balls of ice.

NO. Bad idea. It will destroy the front diff. You'd be surprised how well these do in similar conditions with just a locker out back and some common sense

Cool thats good to know! I guess I will just do a locker out back, what do you guys recommend? I have been considering swaping to a newer axle to get discs out back aswell.

I already have tires on order that are "winter rated" all seasons. SAS is out of the question for now, but maybe one day :ehcapt:

Tru-Trac is an excellent choice and there is a $50.00 rebate on them through December. However, don't waist the money building the stock rear. It just wont handle..well anything. I am rebuilding a 14BT SF now to drop in and replace my stocker that lasted a whopping 3 months after my engine swap. Granted the motors a little hot but the rear was never even off road. 14BT FF are cheap and virtually indestructible but then you have an 8 lug rear. Not a problem if you are planing to swap the front. 14BT SF is a 6 lug rear but hard to find and you will have to pay a premium. Right now your best best is replace and lock the rear. Leave the front open unless you are looking to wheel it hard. Disk brakes can be had for both the 14BT's for $315.00 FF and $345.00 SF complete and delivered to your door. Of course you only want to do this once so you really have to decide on what size tire you want to be running when the rig is all done so that you can select the optimal gear ratio at the same time.
