I just received a recall notice about the door handle issue.

I dealt with GM customer service and they told me to bring it to the closest dealer to me for the cracked dash. They looked at my truck and told me they would order the parts. They replaced my 2 front door handles, my AC control head for the paint peeling off the buttons, and replaced my dashboard.

Total cost $0. 2007 with 35k miles, NO Extended Warranty, and I'm not even the original owner.

A friend of mine did work with the service manager for about 10 years at another dealership so I guess that may have helped some.

2008 Z71 Cracked Drivers Side Dash

I found this forum only while trying to find an easy repair for a crack I just noticed this morning and already started to blame my husband for possibly having a rage attack, lol. He drives my truck as well on occasion. When I found this I could not believe this is happening to so many of us Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban owners. I called the number you have listed for GM and they gave me a case number and said that a District Specialist would be calling me within the next 24 hours. Thanks for your postings!! I'll reply when I get a call.

Greetings everyone. This is my first post here. I was doing a search on cracks in dashboards on Yukons and practically passed out when I found this thread.

I have a '07 Yukon Denali and have noticed the same exact crack that is described here in the previous postings. I even tried to do a little repair on it with no avail. The only solution is to replace it. I merely did a search last night and came across this and couldn't believe all the problems that others are having. thank you to the person that took the time and posted a youtube video on this.

Last night I had to get in touch with someone. Of course GMC is closed on Saturday nights so I went to their website and there is a contact us for reporting customer issues. It is very detailed and you can provided lots of information. I did so explaining my problem and using this thread and that video as references. My crack is above the steering column on the dashboard. You all know what it looks like. I told them I would like to request an inspector to look at it to approve a replacement of my dashboard as it is obvious this is an ongoing manufacturing problem.

I have owned several GM vehicles and it is my hope they will do the right thing and replace my dashboard. Dashboards in this day of age should last for many many years and not crack like this.

I am hopeful that GMC will come through for me and help me out with this. Any comments or further advice will be appreciated. I received two confirmation emails from their system over at GMC that my inquiry was received so I should be hearing from someone this week.

I think the dash is being used as a "strength member"
in other words, when you go over a diagonal road bump,

the left front tire jams up, and causes "cowl shake" which is where the cowl area takes the brunt of the impact, because our trucks do not have Strut Tower Braces to share the impacts from side to side.

i think the Dash does not have room to wiggle, and it breaks at the weakest points: around the airbag (thin) and around the display hump.

if you have ever ridden in a convertible, and crossed train tracks that are diagonal, you can usually see the cowl/dash move around.
the dashes in the GM Camaro's had the same problem.

they will probably tell you it is out of warranty after half a dozen emails, just a waste of time. basically, it's a done deal. they would probably have to re-design the whole firewall structre to not stress the dash and break it.

they never did nothing about the camaro dashes.

you gotta look at how many SUV's are out there with this design, and the poor economy, and realize that would it would break GM to fix them all.

it is STILL a great vehicle. it will do MANY things awesome.

good luck with GM, and welcome to the site!

i think the REAL question is...if you buy an extended warranty, will the extended warranty company pay for the dash?

whats the current cost? i read $1800 somewhere?

I have the same issue. Dealer said they wouldn't fix it. That I must have abused it! It is right at the corner of the airbag. Might have to call GM.

That's amazing... I did the same thing and then GM called me and said, "Since we can't determine the cause of the cracks, we can't help." This is after I told him I've found this thread on the forums and the YouTube video. Total BS...

I have a cracked dash also. I haven't even called GM because if someone told me they couldn't do anything about it I would feel my blood get to my head and would start screaming the F out of someone LOL. I know its not their fault its the stupid designers/engineers that are to blame and GM itself

I called three other dealerships in my area before I found the one that said they would do it for free...start giving the dealerships in your area a call and you will find one that will do it for free, its too common of a problem for them to not know about.

You would think it's redesigned, so in your words it's the same ****** dash lol. On the bright side you'll get another couple years of a non-cracked dash before it cracks again. Haha.

PM sent....

Now to all other people that want the DFW dealer info from now on...if you are new I'm not PM'ing you the information, I'm going to do like the forum does and make some rules of my own...I require you to have a 50 post minimum to let you know where to take your vehicle for the dash crack.

Sorry I'm just sick of sending PM's to people that join just to get this info, be a part of the forum first then I'll give you the info...or get it from someone else, whatever....

hey

Hey Ryan,

I know you just posted about having a certain post count before you would give out the information about the dealership, but I have a 2007 tahoe with 60k miles that has had a couple of cracks on the dash for a while now. I just now decided to do an internet search and I ended up here. I live an hour and a half from DFW and would like to get mine replaced as well..any way you can make an exception? Thanks man.

Well yesterday I went to 3 Chevy dealerships to see if I could somehow get my dash replaced for free. The first I went to was the one I bought my Truck from 5 years ago. The guy I talked to said he had never heard about the dash problem. I was like really? Its all over the internet look it up. The last two I went to were to busy to look into it. But they told me that GM already knew about the problem and had taken no action to correct it. Atleast they did make an appointment to see if they could work something out.
