Exhaust braking

I have a 2025 tahoe LZ0. I’ve been playing with exhaust braking, activated by selecting tow/haul, on downhill grades. I don’t see any difference, is this really doing anything? Manually downshifting obviously gives me immediate engine drag, slowing. Any thoughts, one better than the other?

This is the 2nd 3.0l diesel I have had and your observations are correct. I think the 3.0l is the issue, not a very big engine to create exhaust braking. The 6.6l Duramax exhaust break is very effective.

The 6.2's exhaust braking works pretty well for me, though I probably do it more for the sound than a true need for breaking.
