Engine temp gauge

My engine temp gauge doesn't work, I will be doing some desert driving this coming week, is there a cheep gauge I can by to get the temp?

always cold, I did change the sensor on the top t-stat housing, didn't help

HA..That was the temp sensor for the computer to use. The one for the instrument cluster is located on the left cylinder head directly between the two front plugs with one wire on it.

if it is always cold the wire could be broken or connector corroded out.

HAx2! is it the same sensor as the top one?

disconnect the sensor and get an ohm reading between the wire and good block ground. Should read 1305 ohms at 100 degrees and decreases with temp increase.

I was looking at autozone, and they only show one sensor (the top one)... could it be called something else?

found it at autozone... they call it a switch! I will check the ohm's in the morning! THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!

duralast TU230 at auto-zone I think. Vehicle application selection is jamming on me.

I know this is an old post but I was having the same problem, I changed it out and now my check engine light is on, I tried three times to disconnect the battery to clear the codes, each time for about 30 minutes and the sel is still on, is it one of those codes that needs to go through 100 run cycles to clear? Thanks

I even plugged in the old one to see if it would change but it didnt
