Driveline vibration

So I had a new transmission put in at the dealership in April. May be totally unrelated but just to give backstory. In June I noticed a vibration—not horrible but super annoying. Took it in to get new tires, alignment, balanced twice, and had the wheels check for dents. All good there. Took my wheels off and put another set on—vibration did not change. We believe it’s something not wheel related.

Took back to dealership to see if they can check and make sure everything is tightened up. They reset the TCM per a service bulletin which made it shifted crazy for three days and then back to same old vibration. They offered to start tearing down and checking things but also charge me tons of money which I don’t trust them to do it. They wanted $300 for the TCM reset on parts they install in April.

Anyone have any ideas on what to check first?

No idea what year/model truck you're talking about, when the vibration occurs, where you can feel the vibration... Need a whole lot more info.

What speeds do you notice it? What speeds do you not notice it?

2021 GMC Yukon 5.3 motor
Vibration felt 40 mph and up. Sometimes worse sometimes better. Mainly throughout the vehicle. Not just seat or steering wheel.

Possibly drive shaft wasn't put back where it was before removing it. There balanced. So now drive train is off balance. Doesn't take much. Or u joint failure.

$300 to reset the tcm wow, that literally takes about 30 seconds with a scanner start-to-finish

Dealer should have reset everything needed for the replacement.

Sometimes people sitting in the back row seats can feel if the vibration is at the rear differential or the driver and passenger can feel if the vibration is closer to the front differential.

With older vehicles or those with 2wd mode you can put the car on jack stands and run it in gear while searching for the vibration underneath. Of course the car has to be very secure for that work.

We’ve checked the u joint and it’s still good. We’ve wondered about the driveshaft but trying to find somewhere around here that can check it for me. That knows what they’re doing. May be difficult and to be honest I don’t trust the dealership.

When you Google 'driveshaft balancing shops', what do you get? IMO, you should get something back. The question becomes, how close is that shop to you.
