Dome light switch HOT

I had the cluster replaced on my 2001 YukonXL 2500. When I got back the dome light switch didn’t work. I took it back - they ‘fixed’ the switch. Yes the dimmer works and turns overhead on and off but the switch and surrounding area is HOT to the touch. To the point that I worry about it catching fire. Thoughts?

First things first. Take the cover off and take a look at the bulb and its connection into the holding clips/connector to ensure that it is fully seated.

Well - there doesn’t appear to be a bulb at the switch itself. It is the area right around the dimmer ‘wheel’ that gets hot. Mostly up and to the right. Thanks

There's a backlighting bulb in the switch, accessed from the backside of the switch body.

Sorry to be dumb but how did you find that on RockAuto?

I'm familiar with the switches and the bulbs since I've re-bulbed mine.

I found the switch on Rock Auto, then there are pictures both on the multi-listing and the same pics when you select the part. I knew from experience where the bulb gets inserted, but I don't think RA has the bulbs available; they're somewhat of a specialty item.

For the bulb I used www.carradiobulbs.com since that's where I had bought the bulbs for my work.

Thank you for your help. I was able to get the ‘hot’ one out. It is an aftermarket POS that doesn’t even have a way to replace a light. The wiring harness has also been changed at some point. I doubt that it is correctly installed. I am quite skeptical that I won’t have more problems with ‘new’ used one I just ordered from ebay. Arghhh
