I just installed a a 5.7 vortec into my 99 Tahoe, the old motor locked up. I got almost everything put back together on the installed motor. I notice the oil senor the sensor near/under the distributor. Has a different plug. the one coming from my car is one pin the sensor on the motor is like a 3 pin.

I wish I Knew before i put it in, it would of made removing the sensor that much easier.

Is it simple as getting the 1 pin sensor and installing it or should I tap into the other plug and make it work with my 1 pin?

The guy I got the used motor from left all the sensors and plugs intact so I have the plug.

If nothing else is different and it's just a matter of the plug itself , to make life much easier I'd just swap the sensor out with the old one.

I'd def do that. Me personally , I don't like hacking into a harness if I don't have to , too many things could go wrong.

That's true. Do you know if it'll run with this sensor unplugged? Just inquiring. Or will it tell the computer that its no oil pressure?

Idk, but I'm guessing there'd be a built in safety that won't let it start if the pcm doesn't see oil pressure , but I'm just guessing.

Dash lights come on but no crank no start.

Switched out the sensor , car will not crank. Iv never started the motor since I installed it. Everything seems to be plugged in after the swap I double checked all plugs.

The s terminal on the starter is not getting voltage to engage the starter motor.

Doesn't the s terminal wire run to the oil pressure gauge? I tried to feel back there and follow the wire.

When i turn the key forward and try to start it no pressure is displayed it sits at 0, then I turn the key to the off position the gauge will slowly go to about 20 psi.

Any suggestions?

I'm not saying the oil sensor is the culprit...
