Ok I have a question for you guys. I want to build a custom fiberglass and MDF sub box to fit behind my third row seats in a 2011 Tahoe. I want the box to fit flush with the plastic trim where the lift gate closes to. I also want the box to wrap around the curves of the side panels; I would also like the box to fit the handles used to remove the third row seats.

My question is can I build the box this way: Fiberglass the bottom use MDF for the front and rear of the box, fiberglass the sides which will contour the sides of the trunk and fiberglass the top of the box where the subs will be installed.

My thinking is I will lay tape and fiberglass the bottom (a few layers). Then I will lay more tape on the side panels and fiberglass over those two pieces. I will then attach the bottom, sides, top and MDF together with “Fleece”. I will also use speaker rings on the top for attachment of the subs. Basically I would have bottom, sides, MDF front and back, two or three speaker rings on top all covered with “fleece” which will all be layered in fiberglass resin, finishing the box off with color match carpet.

What do you guys think? Any comments, ideas, suggestions? Thanks in advance…

You need to build a box out of wood of choice and then fiberglass to fit the area. The box needs to be correct air space also.
