cowl hood inserts?

ok so ive heard of using stock hoods and cutting them and welding in a cowl insert anyone heard of this? and if so any info on it? thanks in advance!

well..
1. because our trucks have big hoods so i think a bigger cowl looks better
and
2. i have a secret I've been putting together in my garage for the past few months so haven a little extra space on top would be nice,

ive never seen a cowl hood that big for our trucks. looks like theres only one way to do it then.. i bought my cowl hood for 200 bucks!

But making your own cowl hood would be a ***** and if your bad at body work, dont do it!
your hood will be all wavy and ive seen alot where the body filler cracks because the welds are rusting and shit.

I did that EXACT same thing on my old S-10 blazer, but I did it as a wedge. I saw a 2" Cowl Hood, wanted it higher than that, but not as high as the 6" ProStreet one they had at Summit racing.

From those hood lines, I came in 2" at the front, and even with the lines in the back. Cut along the lines, then tack-welded a piece of sheet metal (cut from another old hood, BTW) filling in the gap. Ended up doing mine 3 1/2" inches, which looked extremely badass on the S-10. As the Tahoe is larger, I'd say a 4 1/2 - 5" would be THE SHIT. Wish I'd taken pics when I did it, but that was about 15 years ago....

Me, I'd try to add a couple vents along the sides, much like the newer HD Chevy trucks have.... that'd be awesome.
