Oh there can be big differences. OBS one with 350 is a pig on gas compared to the newer ones.

I had a 96 2 door obs for years and while it made less power. I don't remember the mileage being any worse than anthing else.

it wasn't a big Suburban thou. Just a shorty. weight could have been a factor. thing got me over 300k with no real issues thou. solid old trucks.

I've noticed a difference between the various generations we've had, we still have a 99 and when it's daily driven its being filled up all the time.

I think it would be interesting to see what the fuel mileage differences would be with the different generations of stock drivetrains in the same body. Is the changes they've made over the years that have affected reliability really worth it etc...

Pre-07 is good in that you can have a copy of the module programming, whereas later models require gm sps.

But I like the 6 speed..

Respect for Nascar, running carbs and a distributor. No electronics!

Buy or find your Non AFM 07-14 6.0 or 07-09 6.2L non AFM motor 1st.

Then get the cleanest 09-14 Tahoe, Burb or Yukon because they have 6L80. The 07-14 Denali & Escalade also have the 6L80 plus 6.2L. Some 6.2L after 09 are 2WD.

If you build it off those years you’ll have ditched the AFM, have a motor that bolts into existing software/ ECM architecture and a perfect mechanical swap whether the truck was 6.2 or 5.3L.

For instance you could find a 12 Escalade or Denali with a blown 6.2L AFM motor and bolt in a non AFM 6.0 or 6.2 motor and be on your way for 100k boring miles.
