Cam question for a Yukon XL

Here's the deal, I am going to freshen the 130k mile tranny and add a 2800 stall TC for my wife's Yukon XL. I am trying to find a 6.0 to swap in but if I can't find one decently priced in decent condition the 5.3 will get the nod. So I am thinking about adding a cam to her truck for some better power (350ish whp). I would mildly work some 5.3 heads and run a 220/220, 224/224, or Thunder Racing reverse split cam 227/224 with a minor amount of work to the heads. The cam specs would be similar if I get a 6.0 but something in that range. I have read a good deal on PT.net but with the additional weight I would like some input from people who have done something in this heavy of a vehicle. Then again I might try and get a 6.0 freshen it, toss in a mild turbo cam and do a remote mount 67 and go for 425ish whp. Owners of big SUVs give me input please.

Car Craft did a 5.3 truck build where they put a pretty mild cam, a set of heads and some headers on it and got ~460hp at the crank. I'm considering running the TSP torquer v2 and a set of headers on mine. I haven't decided if I'm going to do heads as I'm building an LS1 f-body too.

Everyone over there is on that 224 stuff; IMO its not what you are looking for with 6000lbs of weight. I have a Tahoe and will not be doing that cam, its not for us. Why get a cam that big and a stall 3-4Krpm in a heavy truck, when gas is already 3$ a gallon?

Trucks needs TQ, Cars like HP. Those guys have very light RCSB trucks for the most. I would look at a 216/218 range. Personally Im going with 218/220 with a slight stall 2600rpm. And that thing will have major tq off idle and INSANE midrange... all the way up to 6k, and still haul ass. With 3.73 gears and great hwy mileage.

The stock cam in my lq9 is something like 196/204 IIRC, but it put out 345hp stock, dyno 355hp easy. Has gobs of tq and lowend... why give that up with something huge?

What are you trying to accomplish? Just more power to drive around or will you be towing a trailer or camper?
