How about an '00-'06, or even an '07-'14?
For the price of a brand new GMT1xx, you could buy tow or three older ones that are more reliable ... ?
Prices are going up on the used GM trucks now. It is pretty much happening across the board because so many people want a more "analog" vehicle/SUV/truck than the even troublesome digital vehicles.

Have you started the process of a buy back? I paid over 90k for this thing and at this point it’s not worth anything. It’s likely that no dealer will take it as a trade if they do I will take a bath on it. I’d love to get out of this thing ASAP.
Have not started yet yet. First step under Washington law is to contact the manufacture for a repurchase, they have 40 days to respond. I am in the process of looking for gms mailing address. It’ll be a short note requesting repurchase based on my arguments. I believe it’s a process and I want to get started, helps with the frustration. Again, maybe pissing in the wind but I don’t think it would hurt if everybody started looking in to it. The more I consider this whole thing the more I see this as being a colossal cluster for gm. The show is just starting and I think it’s going to get good.

I doubt you can get someone willing and able to spend 80 to 100k on a vehicle to downgrade to a 20 year old vehicle for purposes of reliability.

Given that GM appears to have modified and updated the recall status several times now, it's becoming a bit confusing to know which end is up. Would any of you more qualified guys mind providing an update on the latest developments, and what we should be expecting/demanding from our dealers if our vehicles are in the affected recall VIN window?

I saw a 3% failure rate somewhere. Say it's double or triple that in the end... How can something so catastrophic as a crank / bearing manufacturing issue affect only a small % over multiple years?
I read many... but not every post here so apologies if this was addressed.

That's just it. Some people have money to throw away and they will pay too much for these vehicles/trucks.

The ones that do not have "throw away money" and would be saddled with a monthly payment for literally Years, is getting smarter and realizing the headaches of the new ones and that new does not necessarily mean better. IMO, for what my opinion counts, going so old that you would be in GMT400 and older range, also means harder to find good quality parts. The GMT800 and GMT900 used vehicles/trucks have the bugs worked out and some fine lower mileage examples are out there. For instance:

I have seen it on other GM trucks/SUV forums where many members are having the same bad experiences or their friends are having problems.

there are reports here and other places how it can take months to get the engine replaced and some have that one go too so people can't get rid of them even if they wanted to. I'd never be buying a GM again.
That's fine, but I think it's safe to say that until GM realized the extent of the bad parts installed in these engines, they were unwittingly installing new-but-with-the-same-lot-of-faulty-parts engines as replacements in these trucks.

I addressed that (too) a few pages back. Since there was just a failure at 65,000 on the odometer, the so-called "failure rate" can only show the HISTORY of failures "to-date." That's it. With time/miles, there's no reason to think that all of the engines in the VIN range won't fail eventually. (Now, if all of the failures had occurred at some low mileage, then I'd be feeling good that I'm in the clear. But that't not the case.)

Thx for repeating your answer, I do appreciate it. 80+ pages was too much to get through.
and Agreed... I would think that the root cause would affect every L87 engine made in that St. Catherine's engine plant. Unless they had multiple L87 production lines there and the tooling was only bad on one line. Ugh.

There are even a few, like my older Unk, that could afford a brand new truck, as he’s got the money, but refuses too :) He won’t buy a truck older than 07 and loves 05’s. I don’t think, of the ones who have crossed over, many will be coming back
