Needing brakes and rotor all the way around. Got over 166k and over 70k on current brakes.

What price would I be looking at from a reputable shop for this job?

Thanks

I had my rears done at a place called "Just Brakes". My shoes were good but the drums were toast. They charge closed to double what a parts store does, so the entire job was $250. I did my own fronts for $160 including buying the tool for the caliper bolts.

Do you mean pads and rotors? Our trucks don't have drums and shoes (unless you're talking about the parking brake).

moosehead, is there a reason you wouldn't want to do this yourself and save some money?

Yes pads and rotors. Not sure if I can turn the rotors so I want a price with replacing them also.

Price the parts then add $70.00-80.00 per hour. Most places charge 1.5-2hour I bet

If 1/2 ton suburban

1.6 hours front i
1.6 hours rear

If 3/4 ton suburban

1.9 hours front
1.9 hours rear

That is to install new rotors and replace the pads only.

Do it yourself, its a simple job took me 2.5 hours to do all 4 corners - I just ordered a complete kit from powerstop.

Its an excellent kit with every part needed

http://www.jegs.com/i/Power+Stop/419/K2016/10002/-1

My stopping power is noticeably much better.

Oh and if your truck still has the dumb torx head bolts on the front calipers order new bolts(you need 2 sets, 1 set per side up front) like this:

If you're close to me I can help.

Only took 1 pic when I did mine - I am very happy with the brakes

I would look into the NNBS upgrade. You can get bigger brakes for not much more money. This would require new calipers as well, and depends on what size wheels you have (they fit 17's!), but I would rather have bigger, quality blanks and new calipers than shiny drilled and slotted rotors.

Its probably time for new brake lines as well. You could choose to spend a bit more cash on SS brake lines.

nbs vs nnbs
12" vs 13" plus resigned larger front calipers

So I'm in need of a brake job. The shop quoted me about 1K for all around rotors & pads and rear calipers. I'm going to save some money and do it myself. Thinking of ordering this kit for my 2001 Tahoe LT http://www.jegs.com/i/Power+Stop/419/K2010/10002/-1

What I'm wondering is about calipers. The shop said I have single piston rear calipers. So do I need to stick with the same thing or what? If so I'm going to buy the Power Stop single pin caliper http://www.amazon.com/Power-Stop-S4726-Performance-Caliper/dp/B00DGRRMS2

Suggestions

I don't drive my Tahoe a lot.

1k?! That sounds pricey. Can you turn a wrench?

My wife can change brake pads and rotors.

You should be able to change to two pot rear rotors. The brackets may be different, so you'll likely need to be sure that they come with them (most do).

Whats wrong with your rear calipers that they need to be changed?

You can install:

XL rear brakes those should be 2 pot calipers
NNBS front brakes for bigger rotors and calipers.

For less than 1k no problem.

We are currently running a 16% off sale for Father's day for R1Concepts performance brake parts. We can get the discount for R1Concepts brand rotors and pads or EBC rotors and pads. There are a LOT of members here running our packages and I have personally run them on everything from my own Silverado's, my wife's 04 Denali to my Duramax's and Ford Raptor pickups and have never had an issue at all. Great improvement over stock and they last seemingly forever! I ran their premier series rotors and pads on my last 3/4 ton Duramax from Jan 2009 all the way up to that they were still on the truck when I sold it last September. Send @Rookie a private message for a price quote or comment in the thread below.

Ok so just put together a shopping list real quick...

Ch8g0UV.png

$189 in core charge so total price of $443 after core charge refunds for brand new front and rear calipers/rotors/pads with front upgraded to 13" rotors and bigger calipers and rear upgraded to 2 pot calipers.

Ask them what they would charge if you supply the parts.

I know how to change my brakes. That's not a problem. 1K is for parts and labor. No way I want to dish out 1K for brakes.

So I have sent Rookie an email to get prices. I'm also looking at this package

What is suggested for calipers?
