I know they work, and really good for the money over like a modded Circle-D, but anyone here use one?

i have a question to add to this. how would the stock I6 converter handle towing? are they strong enough to hold up?

oh, i know what they are used on. just dont know if they can handle the v8 torque and the stress of towing 5k+ 20-50 miles a month. 5-15 miles each way. depending on where i launch.

good, gets the power band up faster and more higher stall with more torque. Id add a cooler for sure though.
But yea, should tow fine, its still a lockup converter.

yea and the stock TB stall is around 2100 rpm. The circle d that size can be stalled up to 3200 rpm. so just make your pick. I have a Yank that started as a 3000 rpm and restalled by Yank to a 3200.

While the tranny is down, you might as well put something in that will make a difference. Do you tow alot? Also my 3200 is on a stock cam. All these motors make their tq up high. Peak tq is like 4400 or something on these motors.

i dont know, 2600 on a OEM converter seems a bit high.

I used the TB stall from Circle D @ 3000 and it was great. Trans cooler is a MUST

TB/Envoy I6 converter is 2400rpm. That's behind the I6... stick it behind the V8 and it's a little higher due to the new power input.

A 3000rpm stall converter built for 3-400hp will be considerably higher behind 600hp. That's not necessarily a good thing if it wasn't designed for it since the case is probably ballooning under that much stress, increasing the internal clearances around the turbine making it stall higher.

The high stalls from reputable companies use stronger cases and internal parts for high hp levels. Back in the day it was common practice to install a S10 converter behind worked 350s since it was a cheap mod that gave a lot of stall. Some found out the hard way that those things would go BOOM and leave a huge mess if you pushed it too far.

Back on topic: the TB converter will be a good "mild" performance converter behind a healthy V8. Good stall and won't feel too loose. Go drive a I6 trailvoy to get an idea of how they feel. As for towing, I believe they use the same clutch as the V8s so that shouldn't be a concern as long as you have a larger trans cooler to make up for the added slippage under heavy loads. I personally wouldn't take it beyond 500hp though. At that point you'll be needing a built trans and a good converter will be a great idea (Yank, etc).

also dont put something in there that will take the tranny out as well. I just went through that and am still going through it. Getting a built 65e now. IMO spend the money on a circle d, or spend quadripple on a tranny rebuild.

i put an 05 tb converter in my 01 suburban when i blew the trans.its been in the truck about 2 months and i love it.it stalls close to 2500 but when just cruising it has great manners.with the stall i noticed it locksup at highway speeds at a lower rpm than the stock converter which was great so ill save some fuel!!truck launches awesome right in the power.im doing a 6.0 swap in my truck and wanna get a cam thats gonna work perfectly with the converter.also noticed didnt add any heat really to the trans i haveint seen the gauge move at all over what stock was and i was woopin in when i got it stock in some deep snow on a hill to get it out temp didnt even budge!!
