Anyone own a Deisel Suburban?

I've heard that you can actually purchase a diesel suburban, I've never seen one, but I figured that if someone owned one they might be on here. What's it like?

My buddy's brother has one. It's nothing special. His is kind of a piece lol.

My boss has one, and my buddy has one, they are both the 6.5 turbo. My boss bought his for $1900, and it's kind of a p.o.s. it has starting problems and is beat to hell. My buddy's is still in pretty good shape, he likes it alot.

The motors are actually quite good if you treat them like medium duty diesels. A three quarter ton will get 20mpg on the highway and if you use synthetic oil they can last 200-300K miles easily.

The older ones with the 6.2 are fine too.

Nice ones are hard to come by but worth it. I'd trade my hoe in a minute for one.

If you decide to purchase one have the engine compression tested...all should be above a four hundred...number 8 is the trouble one...if it's good, the engine is good.

I heard a while back that the 6.5's were known for cracked blocks. I'm not sure though. Anyone else heard of this problem?

The best 6.5s are the 94/95...there were some casting problems with the later ones but I don't think it was epidemic...there are millions of those motors around. By now any of the crappy blocks would have long been weeded out...if the compression is up I wouldn't be afraid of one.

I had a 94 6.5 was a great rig it was not the motor that had issues just the componets surrounding it. Saw a 95 burb for sale with one yesterday it was a 2500 4x4 with 155000 miles for 1100 was tempted. Stayed away because the paint was peeling and it was the maroon interior two strikes to start.

The 6.5s aren't bad but realize it isn't any sort of power house like the newer diesels.

Also the 6.3 NA diesels were in the older suburbans....avoid those like the plague! They are durable but EXTREMELY gutless.

dude, I would take a 6.5 turbo diesel pos for 1900 any day!

cant even find those in the two or 4 dr hoes! super super rare!

another great thing about them is the motors weigh about a half ton so in a front end collision...you'll do just fine.

I might have bought that burb...maroon or not...my 2500 95 diesel gmc pickup with a 410 gearset would get 22-23 mpg on the hiway (imp gallon)...my 5.7 tahoe gets 19...that pickup weighed 3 tons with a full tank of gas, even with 40 bales of hay in the back it got 19mpg on the highway.

They can be expensive motors to fix but they don't break often if you don't overheat them....overheating beats the crap out of #8.

Faze I really thought about it but my father in law has an 03 Tahoe LT he is thinking of letting go for cheap or free! It's only got 93000 miles in good shape.
