Anyone know why this happens?

I was spitballing it, lol I really don't know just going off of what I have seen happen on these trucks, the high speed lan bus is a screwy thing to me and the global b stuff even weirder when I hook up the gds2 to the silverado it gives me all kinds of communication errors, yet everything works....

And my knowledge was limited lol. I don’t know exactly how bus systems communicate, my knowledge was limited to dc systems but not communications over them. The family business I worked in was split in half between 2-way radio and pager techs and the Chrysler Electronics warranty department I worked in. Me and my brother repaired Chrysler vehicle electronics for 7 western states - stereos, clusters, BCM’s etc. There were 3 techs that repaired my dad’s communication equipment that was in half the businesses in Portland and half the state up on mountain tops. Those guys were the real nerds. Radio frequency communications was pretty cool to me but to work on that required a degree. We had some of the first vehicle cell phones/ 2-way radios before cell phones were a thing. I did the installations for them in the vehicles and climbed the towers. It was a good job except I had to work for my dad and you know how that goes. I actually just came in to remodel the shop and ended up a tech after showing a knack for it lol. Long post, off topic but I don’t get much chance to reflect on those years.

i had a friend that worked in the car cell phone field probably around the same time he was a installer and would put them in ben'z and BMW, etc for the rich folks, charging them $1000 or whatever it cost's back then a lot of money basically. He would tell me these people are going to be pissed when they find out mobile cellular is literately right around the corner lol

Yeah, off-topic too, but that's where I started as well. When I was young I was working as an electronics tech installing audio/alarm/video systems in cars and loved the work, but I wanted to go further so I went to school and got my electrical engineering degree. After that I was working in the medical field designing and building electronic medical devices, and just kept going until I finished my PhD. But cars have always been my passion, so I work on mine doing most of my own repairs and modifying them. In the last few years I've really gotten into the details of the communications bus systems because I needed to understand that in order to make the mods that I wanted. I've found that most of that has to be worked out through reverse engineering and trial and error because the manufactures guard it like Fort Knox.

Maybe I spoke too soon, thought the lights themselves are perfect and they come on when either a door opens or when i spin the wheel on the dash upwards until it clicks them on, they do not turn on individually from the button that is right next to them....I thought they did yesterday and the old ones definitely did....

What button? The dome override button? That keeps the interior lights from coming on when a door is opened if its in the recessed position. It won’t turn on the lights per se, that’s what turning the wheel until it clicks does.

No the scroll wheel to the right, the one that dims the dash lights and turns everything on when you go all the way up until it clicks.....
either way, the map lights dont come on when i push the button next to either one, they do come on when using that scroll wheel....the buttons worked yesterday to turn on/off either side but not today

Oh ok gotcha. One thing I’ve found out is leds in these trucks act weird depending on the brand. When I was converting my 08 Silverado to led dome and map lights I had all kinds of trouble - the BCM got all kinds of confused and I had some weird issues. I think I ended up disconnecting the battery, waited a few minutes snd reconnected it. That’s what I’d try if I was you. It’s kind of like a reboot for a pc. The old saying with electronics- unplug them and then plug them back in fixes 75% of problems.

The reason those LED's were acting weird was probably because they didnt have a current limiting resistor. You can get LED's with them built in now.
