because the projector assembly is not made for an HID bulb. The HID bulb is several millimeters longer than a 9005/9006 halogen bulb. When you drill out the receptacle to make it fit, the light produced is now at a different focal point... remember playing with magnafying glasses as a kid, you had to focus the sun beam to a point to burn anything, same concept applies here. The hid bulb is now closer to the projector optic and the optic cannot focus the beam, WaLa - you get a dead spot

I have been through several sets of projectors bought from Ebay and other online sellers that claim to be made for HID bulbs. The bulb that the projector lights use is either a H3 or H1 style. It is not recommended that you use the HID kits in any projector light as it does create issues and would not be covered under any warranty.

What I found is that if the projector assy low beam is not a D1S or a D2s style bulb, IT IS NOT MADE FOR HID.
Some of us have gotten lucky by installing HID's in halogen projectors, but it is pure luck, your projector is a few millimeters deeper or your 9004/05/06 bulb is a few millimeters shorter, something about your setup worked allowing your optics to work.
