My guess is that if the head unit won’t access a apk on the USB drive, you will need to do this via an http request to an external web server using the OS’s connection to the internet. That would start by rooting the system using a technique similar to the one these researchers used on a Kia vehicle with the Android system, then accessing an apk hosted on an external web server using the command line.

Yes, please! I logged on here today specifically for this. Mainly because I watch Netflix on my iPad on my lunch break and it would be nice to have the headunit as an option for when the battery is low or I just forget to bring it.

But I'd also like to utilize it for my Nexar dashcam. The Nexar creates a wifi network that connects to your phone but wireless CarPlay disables the wifi on the phone, preventing the Nexar app to be functioning natively. So I was thinking about loading the Nexar app on that Android tablet built into the vehicle and seeing how that works since I do have an active Chevy Hot Spot plan.

Edit:
I wonder if you need to find a way "inside" the head unit for a tech plug or something. I'm sure it's USB based to connect directly to the headunit.
