I did a quick search and didn't see this topic, sorry if I missed it!

Under the hood of my 2001 Yukon (5.3L gasoline) in the fuse box are some unpopulated positions. Most don't have studs in them; one just to the right of the ABS pump fuse does have them though, and is empty.

The only reference I can find online is that the fuse is for EGR equipped engines - not sure where mine is but I would imagine my engine would have such equipment for emission.

Long story short the money light (Service Engine Soon) is on, and it's for one of the zillion oxygen sensors this thing has. I didn't see a code for anything else, but I don't have a code reader of my own (ordered one though) and I suppose it's possible the seller yanked the fuse for some reason, kind of like why the ABS pump fuse is pulled (bad wheel speed sensor keeps the pump energized any time the pedal is depressed, figured that out myself) Am I missing a fuse, or missing something about the emissions of these engines?

I can post pictures if it's helpful.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have a Tahoe 5.3 of 2001 and this weekend, I also realized that I was missing this AIR fuse of 30A. I do not know what this AIR slot is for ...

It’s a California emission thing. We all have a missing AIR fuse unless we have a Cali vehicle. To be specific, AIR in this case stands for Air Injection Reaction and there is an AIR pump on the Cali rigs , it was for cold engine startup conditions where the Catalysts needed additional oxygen for 2 minutes in order to light off quickly to reduce cold start emissions. But when we try to Google this term, everything to do with air pops up. Thanks GM, you couldn’t make that acronym any more confusing. I think their engineers did it on purpose, those types have a lousy sense of humor.

ya my 00 had what was basically a secondary air injection pump, I think they only had it on the 00, it was placed on the passenger side under the hood hinge where all the battery's are placed now, the thing was kind of a pain too because the code for a evap leak could pertain to the pump or the fuel evap which was one more thing to have to screw around with. I am normally at sea level but if I went high up in the mountains and stayed overnight it would pop a code in the morning only time it ever did it.

Coming next model year, GM will be doing it's best to simplify acronyms and markings on your vehicle. Pursuant to this policy, the AIR subsystem will henceforth be named Air Injection Reaction Equipment - "AIRE".

We hope this helps!
