Adding a Supercharger

Hey Guys,

Has anyone added a supercharger to their truck? I was reading up on the Magnacharger install & it sure does look like a lot of work! http://www.magnacharger.com/magnacharger-gm-truck-suv-intercooled-supercharger-system.htm

I don't drive my truck much, but I've been daydreaming of adding a supercharger. Not sure if/when I will, but I was just checking some out. I saw a Vortec one also, but not sure which is the better one to go with.

The magnacharger is a very complete kit and makes great power. You can also swap out the pulley for more boost once you build the transmission up enough to handle the extra power. I'd say the maggy kit is the most reliable system on the market right now and isn't that difficult to install, just time consuming.

Have you installed any of these Max? Im not much of a mechanic but know how to turn a wrench and follow directions lol. Still need to get the funds though.

Yes they aren't too hard to do but having another set of hands makes it go smoother and much more efficiently. Two guys and a few cases of beer can knock it out in a weekend without issue.

My dad and I did mine in about a day and a half. We both are master techs and took our time. For someone who doesnt really work on cars it would still be very easy but would most likely take a little longer. And having the right tools always helps as well.

I installed mine in a day (about 8-9 hours if I remember right). Started on it in the morning and had it running that evening. That was including the intercooler pump, heat exchanger, and aux fuel pump. Only thing is that it takes a couple people to set the s/c on top because of its weight.
Magnacharger makes a very reliable and complete kit. Everything you need is included.

what kind of fuel mileage do you get with a cammed and blown 6.0 if you do not put ur foot on the firewall at every red light and on ramp?

Depends completly on the trans, milage, model, etc...
But mostly on your right foot..


Alot of guys get away with a shift kit and servo..

But if you drive like me....
You will need a built 4L80E.

the magnacharger is a very complete kit and its very daily driver friendly. ive had mine for over 2.5 years now its awesome. out of all the supercharger kits to install id say the magnacharger is the easiest to install its very strait forward. me and a few buddies installed 2 in 1 day.

as of upgrades it really depends what your plans are. if your going to just buy the supercharger and keep the stock pulley AND use there handheld tune that they send you ive seen trucks with a 100k+ entirely bone stock. if your going to pulley it down and add bolt ons with your own custom tune then your going to need to look into trans upgrades and some rear end work to. my stock trans with a shift kit and servos lasted 8000 miles behind my pullied down radix

IF driven normally, I can get about 12-13.

Definitely trans. I blew through my stock trans about 3 months after I installed the s/c. I replaced the trans with a built unit from Performabuilt Transmissions and havent had any issues since (almost 2 yrs so far).
I also upgraded to a Eaton TruTrac lsd after shattering the stock G80. Then replaced the gears with a set of stronger aftermarket pieces after breaking four teeth off the previous ring gear.
I'm glad I have a cool and loving wife. She knows you gotta pay to play and doesnt give me crap about it

You should look at a new transmission as well, checkout Finishline transmissions. I will be throwing a new one in when I supercharge on the recommendation of almost everyone I've spoken with
