ABS Light wont go off

ABS light came on yesterday while i was breaking, it was doing the noise and pulling and then all of the sudden the light came on and it shut off...What could cause the ABS to come on? i heard usually thats when drums are bad. Where are the sensors? I am new to braking systenms.

Sensors in the front two wheels and one in the rear I believe. A sensor could be going bad.

You could try to clean the sensor. If that does not work then you have to change the wheel bearings which is the whole hub assembly and includes new sensors. They're a pretty penny though.

and where is the sensor? i bought the truck with 78k and now has 115k, never serviced drums and dont know where the sensors are.

There is a wire that is connected into the wheel bearing and the other end is connected to the frame underneath the splash guard. The sensor is on the end of the wire connected to the frame. This is for the front wheels. Not sure where the rear is located. If your ABS light is on, then it is probably the sensor going bad if not the actual bearing. Be prepared to pay $150 + for each bearing. They're not cheap, but easy to replace...that is if you have to. I did mine last year and paid like $330 for both.

or your brakes could be out of adjustment.
But if do go down the route of replacing the wheel hubs. Go to your GM dealership and ask for the bolts that connect/ secure the hub to the steering knuckle there like six to seven dollars each. you'll need six. good to replace them if your car has been exposed to winter and the parts are stock.

If I remember correctly, the rear ABS sensor is in the differential housing....

I found this to be very helpful. However I have a question for anybody out there. I noticed the the calipers on the 1999 Jimmy were dual pistons. Does anybody know if they bolt to the 1998-1999 full size trucks/SUVs. I'm always looking an upgrade and have never been happy with the brakes on my 1998 Tahoe. Most aftermarket upgraded calipers are expensive. I know I'm limited with rotor size with this truck but what about calipers? Just a thought.
