Hi There,

I'm about to buy some tires and rims for my 04 Tahoe and want to ask for comments regarding tire size I plan to buy.

I’m buying American Racing Chrome Torq Thrust ST 20x8.5 6/5.5 +19mm rims:

And 275/55-20 Continental Cross Contact LX20 Tires, they have a 6 year/70K mile warranty:

From what I understand, there will be some minor rubbing with 275/55 R20 tires - is that correct?

If I lower my truck (I might want to do the NORCAL SS CUSTOM 00-06 3/5-6 CUSTOM 00-06 Tahoe Yukon Etc Lowering kit), will I run into rubbing problems?

If so would a 2/3 be better?

Any comments regarding size, rubbing and lowering appreciated!!

With those wheels and that tire size I dont think you will rub any, I am running about that size on mine +25mm wheels stock height and dont rub at all, I could actually fit a little larger. However If you were going to drop it with the 3/5 Im pretty sure a 275/45 should have no problems, and you could probably run a 285/50 I would think.

I have the same size wheels. They were on my 00 Silverado. I'm planning to put them on my Tahoe in the spring. I have Cooper Discover HT Plus 275/60/20's on them and they don't rub.

Here's a pic. of the wheels on my Silverado.

My 275/55R20's do slightly rub when backing up at full turn. Barely noticeable and one needs to really listen for it, but because of that I can not say that they DO NOT RUB AT ALL.

I would imagine that some of you have similar issues but have never really paid close attention to it.

I had a 2/3 drop on my previous '06 Yukon and when there were passengers/weight in the back, there was definitely some slight rubbing in the back while going over bumps.

This is exactly the reason why my current rig does not have the rear lowered. Yes, it for sure does look nicer but overall it is less practical. That is at least my opinion.

Thanks for your input Jochen - I appreciate it. I'm wondering with a 2/3 if you had the helper bags installed if that would fix the rear end rub problem when loaded.

As I had previously pointed out, "a tiny bit when reversing" is a WHOLE LOT MORE than "no rubbing".
