the reason i didnt go with the 305 is according to Tony the 305 will Bubble a bit more than the 285. I didnt want that look and i am quite happy with the 285

get a 285/45/22 Goodyear Fortera. I've tried them all. I got these last week. OMFG best tires I've ever owned. Proportially look perfect. Ride is incredible. Supposed to last forever. Wet traction is amazing. ZERO complaints.

Hi Gerod,

I had those exact tires and size on my CK375s, and likewise I had no complaints.

I just happen to love the Nittos, and for some reason (other than the fact that I like how they look) the 305 made a huge difference as to the handling of the truck.

I just wanted to make sure that it is safe to run them on a 22x9.

I love the 305 width on these trucks ... I think it is in perfect proportion to the overall size/width of the truck. :)

I'm not worried about rubbing Felix ... I just don't want the tire to come off the rim. There must be a reason Nitto specs a 10" minimum width no?

---------------------

@ Erin: Thank you so much, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

A slight flare on the side won't bug me ... I run 420s 305/50/20s right now. :)

Ah I see. I honestly don't think it'll come off the rim at all. Mine doesn't look stretched out at ALL. Here are some pics of the 305 tires:

in terms of physics, what would cause the tire to come "flying off" at any speed or from any detour? I don't think I have ever heard of a tire "flying off" because of it saying a minimum width of 10" and its on a 9" wheel? Bizarre...

It's not going to fly off.

The only down side to having too wide of a tire on a certain wheel is that it could possibly cause it to bulge in the center of the tread which could cause it to wear uneven. But if you look on tire rack all tires have specs for an optimal width wheel and an acceptable range.

Actually on tire rack most 305s are for a 10-12" wide and optimal is 11" wide.

As in there isn't enough sidewall to ensure proper tire fitment on the rim ... that would put additional pressure outwards that could (hypothetically) make the tire slip off of the rim. In terms of physics that was my thinking.

This seems to be confirmed by their fitment guidelines since the 305/45/22 only requires a minimum 9.5" width rim, and my current 305/50/20 only requires a minimum 8.5" rim.

That is the premise of my reasoning.

Does Nitto state that it CANNOT fit a 9" wide wheel, or is it only saying that's what's recommended?

In all my years customizing vehicles, I have not once ever heard of anything like this. If you feel as though it's going to scare you, then run the recommended 285/45/22 and drive safe and happy. :)

Dont have oem rims but I do have 305/40/22 and have had no problems with them. My wheels are 10" wide though. Dont think a 9" will have problems.
