hello all

Lonnngggg time lurker first time poster. I have only owned 3 cars in my life, all are Chevy tahoes. First a 02 z71 then an 11 lt, now a 24 rst. I took the first 2 over 200k largely through finding out how to repair common issues on this site :) no one turned a wrench on the first 2 besides me!!

For the first time I’m having an issue I don’t see others having. My 24 after sitting for 18 hours or so will only partially load the digital dash when it is started. It looks like the black layer with most of the text is there but the blue doesn’t load on top of it. When this happens, it will stay like this for the duration of the drive until the engine is restarted. Also, oddly the left rear steering wheel buttons that go to next channel don’t work until the next start.

Based on the time observation I assume we are dealing with a battery drain/low voltage situation.?

Wondering if anyone else has dealt with this? I haven’t tried dealer/warranty route yet due to ****** past experiences and the fact that I own this car to drive 4 children around so it will be tough to be without it for even a day and the issue takes a day of sitting to reliably reproduce.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

I’m having a similar problem: 2024 Tahoe Premier 4WD, purchased new and now with 12,*** miles. Never wrecked or damaged. Many of my drives are longer.

Intermittently, after being parked overnight or longer, the radio station up/down steering wheel rear switch will stop working and not resume working until the next key cycle (short or long drive).

At the same time, the front parking alert sensor WARNING will switch from audible alarm to seat vibrate. It will remain at the vibrate position until I manually change it in the settings screen. The blue and black on the digital screen is not affected.

It also has the common radio volume cut-out for a moment, after the vehicle is started and I begin to drive away (TSB issued - GM is “working on it”).

I have not taken it to the dealer due to the inconvenience and distance. Since it does not have this problem with every overnight park, I suspect the dealer would simply say they could not reproduce the problem.

My suggestion would be to try to cycle through the main dash display with the engine running to see if that returns the display to the correct size one?

I really appreciate you sharing your experiences—guess I’m not alone. I’m glad you mentioned the radio cut out. I absolutely experience that also. I had just written it off as momentary loss of connectivity but it’s too predictable so it must be related. I also seem to get a front collision system unavailable light occasionally under these circumstances—I also just wrote this off as dirty bumper but again it’s predictable.

I have tried cycling through the dash options and that does nothing to change my display issue. My day job is a software engineer so I can see how they developed this display in layers to facilitate loading. Some odd failure mode is activating and not alerting the user.

Just now I ran a test it had been sitting about 18 hours and I had no issue, but last night I did have issue after sit of 24 hours.

Most of my drives are shorter, vast majority less than 10 miles. I have had this since new and was hoping to have another 12 year issue free experience but that seems less likely—I fear this is a symptom of battery drain which stands to leave me stranded at some point lol

Combining this with L87 issues (seems like a given this is not another 200k engine) it’s hard to have faith in this vehicle. A tough pill to swallow for the outrageous cost. :-/

After reading this post - I remembered that I also had the LF parking sensor show unavailable on the dash screen several times when starting the vehicle (red “x” out if I recall correctly). The bumper has NO damage and each time was very clean (but not just washed) and not near any object.

My Tahoe has the 5.3 V-8, so I’m hoping I won’t have engine problems.

My first car when I was 16 was a used 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu 2-door. I have owned at least one GM vehicle continuously since then. Kind of reveals my age.

While I really like my Tahoe, I am very disgusted with the poor vehicle software integration.

My wife bought a new 2025 Equinox RS AWD and we have had MASSIVE software problems, requiring multiple trips to the dealer for repair (also never wrecked or damaged). We are very disappointed with the Equinox. Now only about 4,*** miles.

GM has a significant problem with their new vehicles, and software defects and poorly designed software. I wish I could buy a new vehicle without the massive amount of software (and its defects and poor designs) - but it is a sign of the times for new vehicles.

Best wishes and good luck with your software problems. Probably multiple over-the-air software updates will fix the problems, and then create new ones?

Latest radio issue TSB: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11025753-0001.pdf

GM has been aware of the radio issues for at least a year with no fix.

GM is now aware of the left rear steering wheel radio channel selection switch not working intermittently and is working on a fix: https://gmauthority.com/blog/2025/1...evy-colorado-gmc-canyon-apple-carplay-glitch/

Another example of GM’s poor software development and integration.

Nice find that’s it for sure. Like I said I work in software making stuff like this work 100% really isn’t very hard, but when you sink a decades worth of r&d into glorified golf carts rather than the actual money making models stuff like this falls through the cracks lol
