Hit the 1,000 Mike mark this weekend on my 2017 Denali. Have had zero issues so far and absolutely love the thing. Do feel bad for those who have the issue but I would encourage each person do their own investigation. I drove 5 and never experienced a problem with any of them.

I will say, I read through that long thread and just about 80% of those posts seemed to come from about 5-10 users all documenting their progress.

If you drove 5 2017's above 85mph and felt no vibration that's a very good sign. Perhaps they've started to dial them in. About 50% of the 15's and 16's I drove vibrated at that speed.

Over 85? No. Not at all. Set the cruise at 77 on the interstate and drove for a few miles but definitely didn't drive them over 85.

Few more questions:

- What Bridgestone tires were on there to begin with, and what did they attempt to replace them with?

- You guys who had them replaced with Michelin's, which one were they? From dealership or replaced out of pocket on your own?

- What is AFM Mode?

- Buffeting seems like it hasn't been addressed yet, have they even attempted to look in to it? Anybody know of the cause?

Just finished what is now 23 pages. I am trying to compile a list of things to look at first, or listen to while on a test drive.

There is a 16' XL Denali w/ 42k, 15' XL Denali w/22k, and 14' XL SLT w/ 62k I am looking at right now and plan to check them out tomorrow.

There are also nearly 400 folks on FB reporting similar problems.

I think its well documentated that some just don't feel the buffeting. I would say 50% of folks that ride in our yukon feel it. 2 of my 4 kids are seriously bothered by it while the other two are fine.

I have yet to drive one that is buffeting free. The vibration issues are hit or miss.

My brother in law just picked up a 17 Denali and it has the horrible buffeting....annnnnd he claims it's perfect.

In addition to the record buybacks, there's a reason the yukon, Tahoe, & esky all made the top 10 for most repaired/unreliable vehicles.

GM needs to wake up!

AFM = Active Fuel Management. The switching between V4 & V8 mode.

Understand. Hate that people have issues for sure. Glad mine has been problem free so far and a great vehicle. Fully expect things that need to be repaired as that's a fact of vehicles no matter what.

You've hit on one of the more interesting issues. It seems as though GM has unknowingly designed a pressure sensitivity testing vessel. Some are excruciating aware of the buffeting sensations that the vehicle produces, while others are not aware of the issue at all. I rented one while on vacation and my wife, son and I were fine (thankfully). But it explains how some GM reps can sit in the same truck with an unsatisfied customer and truthfully claim that they don't understand what the problem is.

I randomly saw a FB ad for the Yukon Denali and saw it had some comments so I clicked on it. They were getting tore up over there to. Oddly enough there seems to be a GM representative attempting to alleviate those with problems and having them contact him. I don't know if it's for show, or if they are actually taking care of people.

We we replaced theboem with Michelin premiers in the 20" size and made sure they were road forced under 15lbs. Anything over and we had horrible buffeting/pressure. There are lots of things that might initiate the buffeting but tires are one of the obvious and strongest culprits.

The oem wheels and tires I removed were installed on a friend's older sierra and his truck rolls smooth and quiet.

I've worked with multiple dealers and a gm engineer who admitted there's a huge issue with these trucks.

The classic term "they don't make 'em like they used to" applies here. But, at least they made it comfortable and look good!
It looks nice but damn sure ain't as comfortable as the 2001-06. My 70 year old mother describes it best, your old truck is like flying in first class and your new one is like business class.

Not trying to get political but I'm hoping this new administrations roll back of fuel regulations will make auto makers get rid of the stupid AFM (as I watch environmental protesters marching on Washington). Cant wait for my truck to fall out of warranty so I can tune it.

Thank you. Is there a certain speed at which that kicks in?

It's not really determined by speed. Generally speaking, if your foot isn't on the accelerator, it's usually in V4 mode. It will also revert to V4 if cruising on relatively flat ground at speed. That has been my experience on the '15 Silverado I had for a short time and my '10 1500 as well. GM claims the transition is seamless and virtually undetectable, but I can tell you that is not the case from the vehicles I've owned and test driven. Utilizing a range device, superchips, hypertech or diablo handheld tuner are the easiest ways to permanently disable AFM. It would be my very first mod if I bought a new SUV.

Agree 100%. AFM is more trouble than it will ever be worth on the GM trucks. From what I understand, drive ability is greatly improved by removing that feature. Based on the way my last GM drove/shifted and generally acted as if something was wrong when going in and out of V4 mode, I personally believe disabling it is worthwhile, regardless of any mpg impact.

Thank you. I have been in touch with Blackbear already. Wanting to throw on a AFE intake (most gains from their testing of multiple intakes) and a cat back exhaust before I start logging data for the tune. I already have their AutoCal is why.

I think that regardless of any particular administration's love for/hatred of the planet afm won't be going anywhere.

Being able to show a couple of additional miles per gallon on the window sticker is way too important for car manufacturers. Might not seem like it right now but the minute gas prices jump up it becomes massively important. .

Maybe it's time to get some new engineers, not the one's that you get cheap when you graduate at the bottom of your class. just my 2 cents worth

oh yeah you might have to pay them more than 12 bucks an hour!!

Is this just the current generation models that are having this issue? No similar issues reported with the 2007-14?

Looking to replace an 04 Yukon XL soon, but don't want a (literal) headache.
