Guys,

Greetings to all.

I have a 2013 Yukon XL 6.2L, w/ Retractable Running Boards.

Owned the XL Denali since 2021.

Bought it in Albuquerque NM and then drove it home to MN.
Right when COVID started, in Feb and had a great solo trip back home.

I'm sure it does not like the very cold MN winters, as the last couple I've had some operational issues with the Retractable Running Boards freezing up.

This winter we've had spurts of super cold & way below zero temps, for weeks at a time.

Last year, the boards would go back to working normally when the weather warmed up as they 'thawed out'.

But this winter was super cold for way too long, and they are no longer working.

Right side is stuck in the up, retracted position and driver side is stuck down and won't come up.
Have tried the on/off dash switch, & no luck.

Been looking for help in the factory operator's manual. and Running Boards are not even listed in the index, and not even a location of a fuse, or relay is mentioned, or shown.

Found some supposed reset procedures, & seen a few things on the web, but nothing seems to work.

Wondering if there is there a reset procedure that's specific to 2013?

Really love my XL Denali, but would really like to get these boards working again, as it's a great feature and offers great aesthetics in appearance !

Would sure appreciate any assistance from anyone on the Forum.

Look in your manual -- get one here: https://www.gmc.com/support/vehicle/manuals-guides?compIndex=1&year=2013&make=GMC&model=Yukon+XL

The engine compartment fuseblock, fuse #65. Looks like it might be a J-case fuse:

Hi

Oh well, pulled fuse #65. 30 amp retractable running board fuse.

Sucker took a fly behind the engine compartment box, can't see it, so never got a look, or able to circuit test w/meter.

Went to O'Reilly & bought same replacement & put it in...

No difference, the boards still fo not work...?

Any kind of a reset procedure, specific to 2013 ?

LMK

Thanks & best regards

We’ve had a 2011 Escalade, 2013 Escalade ESV, 2015 Yukon XL Denali, and 2019 Escalade ESV all with the power retractable steps.

Best I can advise is during winter months when temps allow take to local car wash and with the steps down/out power wash the hinges and hardware really good. Then once they’re dry spray them with some silicone lubricant.

I use this:

I get the nozzle tip as deep into the hinge as I can and spray the $hit out of them. I try to clean and spray them on similar intervals as oil changes.

If a step isn’t going fully back up/closed; open the door to activate it get your heel under it and help it back up with your foot.

Start by dousing them daily with a good penetrating liquid like kroil. Do it for a week. They’re just in a venerable spot being fed contamination by the wheels.

Is there a fix for them not properly folding in, the front section folds all the way but the rear section is lazy and retracts 70% of the way and requires a light tap with your foot to close it all the way. ANy ideas?

Guys

My running board problem ended up being the Control Module, that's mounted on the right frame rail.

After new one was installed, the dealer still had problems reprogramming them.

But it's all good now.

For next winter, I was advised to turn them off with dash switch in either the up or down position.

Winter is ******* retractable running boards, so I'll be deactivating them in November when cold weather arrives.

I'm good for now.

I will be acting on advice given and do appreciate all your feedback to my issue.

Thanks, and best regards
