So I’m having problems getting the right fitting for the nut that holds the cover to the air condition filter. In the 2011 Tahoe there is no air conditioning filter and cover. But it can be cut out to fit the filter cover with screw and a filter can fit into the unit. Chevy simply covered the filter hole with plastic that can be cut out. I’m having trouble finding the right connection to unscrew the single bolt that holds the covered plastic. Once the “plastic” is removed the potential opening to the filter is revealed. Anyone done this before? I have a socket set but it’s just not the right seize. The right tool and seize connection would be great it’s in an awkward position on the passengers side front just above the feet.

Thank you.

So a few yeas ago I installed this kit from GM for my 2010 Escalade EXT it was the door, screw for filter door and the filter. I still get the filters from Amazon AC Delco part # CF193C you might be able to get the GM parts kit. The filters are a hassle to install because you have to wedge them into the slot but it seems to make a difference in dusty conditions. You do have to loosen 2 or 3 screws 7mm above the passengers footwell and drop the rubber insulated cover to get to it

There are 3 bolts and they are 7mm you really only need to remove 2, dorman makes a kit that is the filter slot cover and a filter or just the cover piece.
Thank you I was wondering what size to use with my socket wrench.

I purchased AC Delco filter and filter cover. Even purchased a knife with blade to cut through the plastic. In theory this all should work.

Thank you

You might have to squish a normal filter to get it in there the dorman one is trifold for future reference and goes in much smoother

I think used a Razor knife and a oscillating tool if I remember correctly to cut out the opening and like I said the filter makes a 90 degree turn as your shoving it into place. Poor design but better than nothing

Do blieve and Mp5. I did it. I cut the section with a cutting knife and a demel tool with bit. It took awhile with frustration to go with it but I put in the filter and had the kit to close it with the 7mm nut.

My main concern know it that the part that covers the filter bottom is not flush enough and water will leak. So I’m concerned that I need to sand the rough edge’s more and get a better filter. Doubelieve do you have the Dorman part number for the filter? If I could have it please.

For future reference there is a cover that goes over the area where to filter is. You need to remove 3, 7mm nuts. Then remove the plastics cover then cut out the long rectangular section with a box knife or preferably an electric cutting tool like a dremel. It’s an odd low area and I’m a big guy it’s project. Get sand paper and smooth the rough areas once you cut the section out. It also creates a mess. I used a dremel tool with a dry wall cutting bit vs there small circular saw. The saw cutting tool cuts fast but it super heats the plastic an it melts. It it gets on the carpet it will fuse as it cools. You will make a mess believe me. Wear protective glasses. lots of plastic shavings everywhere.

Aloha

I also did this mod on both the Tahoe and Suburban, but had better luck using a brand new blade on a utility knife than cutting open the hole with the Dremel. I did use a Dremel to finish the project eventually, but just for cleaning-up the edges.

I had to remove three 7mm bolts on the knee panel to remove it, but left the one that was behind the center console off when I put everything back together to make changing the filter easier.

Did you have to sand down the edges? What filter do you use?

Hope it’s worked out for you.

I didn’t sand them down as much as smoothed them out. I felt the new “door” sealed it enough that it didn’t have to be perfect.

I used the filter I got with the kit and GM filters. It is an awkward bend to insert but fine.

Hi so it’s been a year since I changed the old filter out ( cabin filter) and indeed it was dirty. It a pain to put the new one in but I managed . The photos are attached. It’s a 2011 Tahoe so they put a port for the filter but I had to cut it out. So technically it didn’t come with a filter port for 2011 model. It was a wow moment when I saw the filter. It was dirty. Also the pics I’ve posted have the filter box with part number in case anyone is in the same boat.

PS the port takes a 13.5 x 10 x 1 does anyone know if k and n makes a reusable filter. Any make with that specs or something that works/ fits the filter port would be great.

Thank you.

Those GM filters also fold and go in one way. Yours looks like it went in backwards, BTDT! LOL

I like that they are carbon filters so they also knock down the smells. Don't recall K&N having them but Purolator did or does.
