Alright, after a little searching on multiple forums I figured I would ask all of you. I have a 2007 LTZ Tahoe, non-lux, No Nav, but DVD. I purchased a new 2010+ USB DVD Radio (non-nav). I plug the unit in, everything works, USB, Tuner, DVD, Steering wheel controls, all of it. There is NO audio.

I brought it to my friend who is usually very knowledgeable at programming things here in the Houston area. When he went to program it, the part number for the radio did not come up in the Tech 2 section where he would program it. He can pull the part number from the radio but it does not show up in the list of available units that can be programmed for the 2007 model year.

His first thought was that it needed a LUX amp because most dvd headunits that are non nav are usually in LUX amp vehicles. Then he realized it shouldnt matter because unlike the Class 2 system, all the radios are the same in the LAN system, they just need to be told whether its LUX or not.

Has anyone sucessfully done this with a DVD USB unit going into an 07-08 model year, and if so, how did you get them to program it? He tried from a list of 10 availbale part numbers in the database and none worked.

Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure you need an amp to get sound out. I made the swap like you 2008 to 2010 nav but I have bose so I did not need an amp.

I do have one question though, how did u get your USB to work? That is the only thing that won't work on mine.

I shouldn't need an amp, I have Bose. Its not LUX bose, but its Bose.

As for the USB, it just worked. The unit was new, no VIN stored in it so functionality worked immediately. Hooked up the iPhone with no issues, can access playlists etc from steering wheel controls. Just no audio.

Any ideas?

I'm sorry I can't help you out, but could you help me out? :D

You said you just hooked up the usb and it worked...do you have the part number to the cables and port you used to accomplish this? I though I had all the right part numbers but my usb does not work.

Ryan, you have the nav unit though right?

The usb port for the nav unit is under the armrest inside the center console from factory ... did you have yours installed somewhere else?

Btw, if your usb connection isn't working, as I understand it there's an accessory cable that achieves the same function:

Well I installed the nav myself, bought the cable for the usb and ran it into the center console to find out it doesnt work for some reason :( I am beginning to wonder if the usb is something that needs programmed??? I am liking the alternative, but it looks like it not for use with NAV units...is that what you get out of that description?

Yeah, I didn't pay close attention but that's what it looks like.

Mmm, not sure if the nav needs programming for usb, can't imagine why it should ... I've only tested it with my iPad and it worked, but I'm not sure how it's supposed to interface with other devices.

Anyhoot, don't want to derail the OP's thread/question ... unfortunately I don't know the answer to that either.

To sum up: I'm useless. :waytogo:

From what I gather, the USB function on any USB radio should work immediately upon hooking up. The part number for the USB radio I have is: 20785735. I did not use a GM usb cable. I used a standard Mini-B to USB cable, then I used a gender changer to go back to a Mini-B, and into the factory Tahoe / Silverado connector (White plug).

Like I said, all functions work on the radio. I can browse playlists, artist etc via steering wheel controls. Ive tried my iPhone 4, 3GS and Nano, all work fine. Just no sound output.

I have even compared the pinouts from a 2007 to 2010-2011 and they are all the same on both the amp and radio. Any ideas now?

I just purchased the cd non dvd radio with the rear USB port… USB works fine, I have sound but it’s as if the radio isn’t powerful enough to run the speakers in my Tahoe. I’m starting to wonder if the factory non-Bose 6disc has an internal amp… anybody know?

So after a bunch more research, apparently these radios need to be programmed differently to go into 07-09 trucks. Something that cannot be done with a Tech 2, but with more proprietary software. Found a company in California that charges $100 to get it custom programmed to your vehicle.

I don't know about that Ryan, like I said before I have a 2010 or 11 NAV (cant remember) that went into my 2008, the tech 2 programmed it with no problems. If you haven't tried a different person/dealership to program it, I would give it a shot.

I've tried two different people so far that know their shit, and no go. Didn't you mention that yours works, but the USB doesn't?

Oh ok, that is weird, and yes my USB doesn't work :( maybe what you found will fix my issue as well...the only reason I bought a newer nav unit was for the usb, so I was pretty pissed when I couldn't get it to work. Keep the thread updated once you do this, I would like to know if all goes well.

Will do. I should be getting the unit back this week. If it works like it should, I will give you his contact info.
