2009 Tahoe LT thoughts

That's a low optioned LT Ron, check ALL switches and bells and whistles, look underneath for rust and rot. The console cover can be replaced and you can recover the seats too. This one does not have memory, heated seats or Auto AC.

Should have 2-speed transfer case, so read up on how to engage 4LO and Neutral and get back to 2HI. Run it through all the paces with your ears intently listening.

Don't forget to bring along your Tech-2 and hook up to see what's going on inside!

I have a 2009 Yukon with 149,000 on the clock. Second owner since 2010. One small dash crack, 2 inches, front corner of passenger side dash airbag. Auto fold on mirrors no longer works. Lumbar on driver's side seat not working. Did minor suspension repair at 125,000 and brakes at 140,000. Other than that, only routine maintenance.

Just got back from checking the 09 Tahoe out. A sharp eyed member here saw a darked color on the driver's side rear door and it was darker when I got there and the jam showed obvious impacy scratches. Had been wrecked. Walked away.

Eagle eye for sure. If you had not seen it and warned me and I never opened that door then I may own it now instead of walking away. Thanks a bunch.

The whole idea of all this was to get a newer model, although I really like my 02, and have both and then drive and see which I liked best over time and then sell the one that needed to go.

That '08 is identical to mine except mine is 2WD and has the moonroof. Drive 'em all, but keep in mind that the '08 has the 4-speed and the '09+ have the 6-speed which is worlds better in city driving and it's a stronger trans. This may not matter to you if you don't tow much and are fine with the 4-speed's gearing. Both transmissions have much more potential with a good tune.

The transmission's shift characteristics as programmed from the factory are a bit too much on the "soft" side: Slower, more gradual shifts, delayed downshifting, quick upshifting... This is geared more towards comfort and fuel economy, but at the expense of trans life since the softer shifting is attained by allowing more slip in the clutches. The quick upshifting intended to get the RPMs down as quickly as possible for better MPG usually leads to lugging so you have to give it more throttle, which often makes it just downshift again, negating any supposed MPG benefit and doubling the amount of shifting the trans has to do.

A good tuner, such as well-renowned Black Bear Performance, can optimize the shift characteristics to improve drivability and reduce the slip, extending trans life.

While I am still keeping my 2002 Tahoe, I came across a 2009 Tahoe LT with 147k miles on it that I think could be gotten for a great price. I have to get a closer look on it this weekend, is about 50 miles away, but the supplied pics look very good. He wants $13,750 for it but I really think I can get it for about $2000 to $2500 off that price.

Any thoughts about what I should be looking for when I see it and drive it?

even if you are getting it for 11k that is still top dollar for it 2009 LT is fetching about 9-10k
with the same or less miles

at a small dealer it's 16k for 2011 LT with 102k miles shows you how much of a scam that dealer is doing.

Yea, I have since changed my mind and am wanting a Suburban. I have my eye on one. A tenant at my storage facility has a nice 2003. He wants to sell but the wife is iffy right now.

sub are a bit cheaper i would have gotten one but it's such a pain in the ass to deal with (parking wise).. in the metro and all those ULTRA sub compact parking spaces.

Here in Pewgene, Oregon the homeless have taken over downtown. I never ever go there. I have a couple places I frequent regularly and there is plenty of room to park. I am going to bide my time for the 03 Sub.

Ha! Mine whips around easily through parking lots. If some foolish store only has sub-compact spots up front, just take only two of them! hehehe

I brought my oldest to school last Friday and was reminded of how tight the Tahoe's turn radius is. It's almost embarrassing cuz I felt like I was in a small sedan. If the long bodies have the same steering setup, I'd imagine the radius to be only marginally wider.

I bypass any parking spots up front, compact- or regular-sized, and park away from anyone else. Walking an extra 100' is much easier than having to look at dents and scratches on my doors.

I have an ‘09 LT. If you wants to use the Onstar app to remote start it then you’ll have to swap out the Onstar module with a 2010 or newer. For reference, I paid around $8000 for mine this past January and it had 92,000 miles. I’ll get through the winter and will need new rubber next Fall. It’s a nice truck. Look forward to adding heated seats and other slight mods. I bough the HP Tuners tool too so that added another $300 or so to disable the AFM and maybe tune it down the road. Keep looking. There are good deals out there.

You definitely notice that extra 2’ of radius.

The 13.5" extra inches of wheel base is what's driving the larger turning radius. If you go down to a Tahoe/Yukon your looking at a wheelbase of 116" and a turning radius of 19.5'.

you can make the turning radius narrower by using a simple RWD trick..

Yea, that shouldn't be no big deal to any mother pushing her kid around in a stroller in the neighborhood.
