I have done it with a 5 foot long 1/8" wire but first to gain access I have to use pry tools to start opening the gap between the upper door and the body. You have to be very careful prying or you will rip up paint. Plastic pry tools are best but have little power. Pry bars wrapped in soft cloth can do it. Once my gap starts opening I insert a Wood shim, the shim starts at a point and widens to maybe 1/2". As I pry more I try to insert a wider shim. Once I have a gap wide enough to slip the wire inside you can slip the wire down and unlock the door. It takes a small hook on the bottom of the wire so it can grab the unlock button. Once we had the keys in the ignition and used the wire to grab the keys out of the ignition and pulled them up and out the window. What ever works best.

An extra Key and a hideaway key is your best option.

I have never owned a slim Jim but that may be another option.

My Tahoe has self locked. Engine running...ha....anyways, I had a hidden key underneath and had to crawl under to get it. Got dirty but got opened. I don't trust it anymore and am careful to keep my keys with me when I get out.

Always keep the fob & the physical key separate from each other. ALWAYS.

I've locked myself out by inadvertently pressing the lock button on the door panel with my elbow, as I exited the truck. My dogs have also inadvertently locked me out, when I've left the motor running for AC for them, while I was in a store.

No two ways around it, it SUCKS. What sucked even MORE was my calling my wife and asking her to come and bring my spare set of keys.

Lesson learned the hard way. I've got a spare key hidden on the exterior of the truck.
