Vehicle info in threat subject. Z55 suspension. I do have the tech 2 scanner.

My front struts blew. Now it wallows around on the highway like a drunken ship, and bounces like crazy over small bumps in town(it does not have a front swaybar due to broken bolts in the sway bar mountsng holes. The rear air shocks do still work. The existing front struts are NOT the electronic style. Is there a way to test to see if the connectors/etc still work? If so, where can I get replacement shock/strut assemblies for it with the electronic suspension? If I can't test it in any meaningful way, which front strut assembly should I buy to replace it? It has always felt a little soft/bouncy up front. If they are super expensive I won't go the electronic route as my life circumstances have changed drastically and can't afford any large repairs at this time.

Thank you!

First, drill out your broken sway bar bolts and put the sway bar back on. It is not hard to do, as I broke a bolt and drilled it out myself.

The front Z55 struts are going to run you ~$350 each, but I don't know your definition of 'super expensive'.

Are the electrical connectors still there? If yes, that is a good sign, as most folks converting to a passive system typically just cut them off and throw them away.

When you state that the rear shocks still work. Do you hear the air compressor fire up for ~5 seconds every time that you start the truck, after sitting over night?

Do you have any dash trouble codes referring to suspension issues?

No sway bar to put back. I found it that way when I got it. Never fixed it. Was just a spare vehicle until a few months ago when it because my only ride (divorce).

The harnesses are still there best I can tell and not cut. Is there anyway to test them?

Yes, they still work. They turn on when I have a heavier load in the back, and do the self check with key on or on startup. They are also still fill of air after I shut it down. I replaced them a year or 2 ago.

I have tons of trouble codes lol, including codes for the front suspension. My dash is a christmas tree. But it runs, drives, stops, has cold ac and the accessories mostly work.

Until you replace your front sway bar, you won't get any decent handling, particularly on roads that aren't straight.

There is probably a way to test them, but I'm not sure what that would be. One way to test them may be to put a 3-5 Ohm 25 watt resistor across them and see if any related suspension trouble codes disappear.

What trouble codes appear on your dash? Do you have a scanner to identify the actual trouble code numbers?

Good to read that your rear suspension appears to be in good order.

its never had a front sway bar since I've had it considering how old/rusty the stuck bolt looked. It looks to have been completely removed at some point.

The struts went bad, I was on a washboard dirt road... afterwards it was bouncing way worse than normal and hasn't stopped doing so service suspension on dash, check engine, tcs, abs, tires. Yes, I have the scanner, I mentioned I have the tech 2 scanner.

It needs struts. I know it needs struts. There isn't a more affordable option for the struts? That is $350 a piece just for them, no springs? Where would I get them from? Or, do you have a part #? The part #s I have found are discontinued.

Thank you

If you are asking about the springs, I purchased Moog springs from RockAuto.com, which are direct replacements. The Moog part number is 81250.

Sway bars actually work with the shocks and reduce the effort required from the shocks, thereby increasing the shock's lifespan.

You could probably get a sway bar from a junk yard if money is tight.

I was hoping for a front complete strut assembly option that works with the Z55 electronic suspension. I'm not seeing anything available.

Does arnott make a replacement option anymore? I couldn't find one there either. Do you have a part #? Just the strut will work too if there is no complete assembly, though I then need to get a spring compressor. I was just hoping for an easy swap.

Thank you

Yea, I most likely will eventually. Time is limited. I need every piece, there is nothing for the front sway on the truck.

I'm not sure on your Arnott question, but I do not see any Z55 equivalent shocks offered by Arnott anymore. They do offer a shock that will fit, but it bypasses the Z55 electronic active shock feature with a resistor.

Check your RPO code sticker and look for 2 RPO codes that start with 6** and 7**, and post them here. If the codes are 6JK and 7JK, then your front shock part numbers are 19420493, and they are available at RockAuto.com at a cost of $294.79 each (You can get 5% off that price, using the RockAuto discount code that is posted in this Forum).

If your 6** and 7** codes are different, then we need to look further.

Ok thank you. Yea, thats the only Arnott I found as well. Older posts showed there being a z55 compatible/functioning one.

I put that part number in on rock auto and this is the only one it pulled up https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=17916825&cc=1433415&pt=15174&jsn=663 . Nm, I went to assemblies not struts.

I found the one you were referring to here https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=12522509&cc=1433415&pt=7556

Thank you for your assistance. Now i need to decide if I want to spend double the money and a lot more work. I've never experienced 'factory ride'... and I dont even know if my stuff would work lol.
