And all the stuff to .1500 with 5.3L

Replace. Thats where mine cracked. Mine had the wrong coolant in it before I got it. $200 or so at orielys. Yours doesn’t have the engine oil cooler so it may be less.

Be sure to get the radiator that has the restriction in the line that goes back to the surge tank, otherwise the engine won't come up to temp. OE would guarantee it having that restriction.

Coolant type generally doesn't matter, as long as different types aren't being mixed together. Do a good flush, use a high quality antifreeze, and change (with a flush) on a regular schedule. Lots of us stick with DexCool but others don't. It's the mixing of different types that causes big issues.

The discussion about antifreeze types is almost like the limited slip additive subject of G80 diffs.

Question to order right radiator .. mines 5.3 L flex and it has tranny cooler and one in front of radiator condenser and power steering cooled in front of radiator and condenser.
But no engine oil cooling as you can see .. there must be a RPO to get right one maybe ..I'm going with ac delco one if I can .

Exact same spot mine cracked too.

I use peak global lifetime. I've read in a number of places that air causes dexcool to gel up. Maybe chemistry has changed over the years but my risk tolerance has not.

Dexcool fails in a way that it becomes acidic. From age or air intrusion. Mixing it with any other coolant really makes a mess.

Im gong to run it again after a full flush. I have a new pump and radiator already. I am going to add a float switch of some sort in the purge tank to let me know if it ever drops. Wire it to an LED mounted somewhere in plain view.

don't get confused with ordering a radiator, yours will be the 34" nothing else matters, doesn't matter if it has the engine oil cooler or not because even if the radiator has the oil cooler option it just wouldn't be used is all, makes no difference if it is 2wd 4wd awd, or if it has or does not have anything else. they all come with a transmission cooler port.
you can source a oem radiator cheaper than from the dealer at many places, just don't buy a cheap generic one and you will be fine.

I got upper and lower hose temp sensor and thermostat .. might need heater hose ..now to go green or GM stuff dex ..[emoji849] can I leave it green ? I seen bothers 2002 has same issue very small crack . He used dexcool the whole time so green or dexcool same out come it's the plastic. 185,000 miles only [emoji849][emoji15]

cracks happen from age & heat has nothing to do with the type of coolant if it has the green stuff in it already then it is probably easier to just stay with the green

I drain/fill my cars every 2 yrs regardless. No 100k miles infinite life fluids for me.

Acid state appears to be what kills cooling systems (major stuff, not rad) and regular changes prevents that. Im cool with $30 every 2 yrs.

This is absolutely not true. The Dexcool was NEVER the problem, if you'll notice there are no longer problems with it where people never change it. The problem was bad plastic intake gaskets that allowed oil to get into the cooling system when they cracked (if you'll notice, the problems only happened on V6 engines with known intake gasket issues).

To the OP's question, replace is the only option. I would recommend spending the money for a GM (not aftermarket or AC Delco) one. The original lasted 14 years.

Your Truck came with Dexcool when new. Dexcool has been used since 1995. My'95 Tahoe had info in with the owners manual that a new coolant was now being used in your new GM vehicle called Dexcool. It is the only coolant approved for your vehicle by GM.

You can still walk into a GM parts department and purchase genuine dexcool like I did last year. It is still used today just like it was in 1995.

Well I would agree that mixing of the coolant was an issue but I would also say the decision I made was after hours of reading on many different sites and many accounts of life experience and chemistry. GM is a profit center and we must not buy into the line that everything they say, make, or approve of is in the consumers best interest.

Radiator's are made by many different company's. I got mine from Napa but it was not made by Napa.
