Idk, I was very hesitant to slap a new drier, tube, and compressor on without flushing the system or doing the condenser and evap as well. But we did cause hes poor and I didn’t feel like fronting more money. Pressures are great and it blows cold as can be!
Good job. Orifice tube did what it was supposed to do

Not sure that's its sole purpose, but it does act as a filter.
Filters are good.

Totally unrelated but I did make some new house garage progress. These hexagon lights are fantastic for the price! $100 for those. The tote storage workbench trend is hot and I see why, it’s very easy to build and works great.

Is that its only purpose? For some reason I thought it did something more

Orifice tube is basically the metering valve and what causes the freon to go from a High pressure/liquid state to a Low pressure/gas state. As the gas expands it gets cold.

Good to know. Every time I've had a mechanical failure, it's been full of debris. Good to know it's actual purpose

Looks great. I really like that style of light. Have you considered painting the ceiling black?

Yes but that requires work and more whiter is more brighter
Yeah, the filter is there to keep trash out of that little tiny orifice.
Well it might not have worked completely. Buddy said he heard a knocking sound and the AC belt shredded. I didn’t look at the belt or install it so maybe he screwed it up or it was old but I’m thinking more junk clogged the new orfice tube and the compressor died.

Hard to say. Most of the time when you have a lot of trash on the orifice tube it means the compressor isn't long for the world, or it already crapped the bed... lol

The old one did, we replaced it, the drier and the orfice tube. Pressures were great and air was cold. Key word “were”

I like to add a tad, I always figure a bit more won’t hurt and so I really trust the factory?

I have drained the oil from new compressors and measured to be sure it was the correct amount. You are correct a little more won't hurt but too much could cause slugging and possibly break a belt.
