07 UP 5.3/6.2 Dont waste time on cat back.

Guys ive been doing a lot of these kits and i will start with the 6.2 trucks. They have a 3.5 from the factory catback set up. The best bet (unless your making mad power) is the magnaflow 12909 muffler to replace oem system. On my escalade I have this muffler and took off the resonator and have the pipe dumped under the truck. No real drone and I even took the 3rd cat off in rear. My wife drives the truck daily with 3 kids in there no complaints (then again her heads/cam/long tubes no cats trailblazer ss she was fine with lol)

Now onto the 5.3 guys. Same thing unless your making a lot of power the stock system main restriction is the muffler. On the 5.3s I cut off the rear resonator and add in the magnaflow 12589 muffler.

On this set up will still give the 5.3 a nice sound and not resonate in cab.

PS- if your running headers keep rear resonator in and run the big 5x11x22 muffler. Truck will still sound good when you get on it but not drone in side the truck.

So is the universal agreement that the big magnaflow muffler/reso delete setup won't drone on a 5.3?? I've been reading a few conflicting posts and would hate to hack up my stock exhaust for a set up that drones, as I absolutely hate drone.

What about changing the exhaust to a two out magnaflow muffler? Would that cause drone or be excessively loud or just flat loose power?

Do you have a sound clip of the 5x8x24" muffler on a 5.3?
I was opting for that one over the larger case 5x11 muffler for that little extra sound.

I'd suspect the droning is coming from exhausts that have the rear resonator removed and without adding a tail pipe to complete the system.

Just did a 5.3 last night buddys truck with the 12259 muffler and wasnt bad at all. LIttle louder but still soudned good
