04 tahoe..Tag light issue

I have a 2004 tahoe. I went and changed the tag light bulbs but they still aren't working. All the other lights are. Brake lights parking lights ect. What can I do to fix this issue?

I meant to say tag. As in this license plate lights.

Bad sockets or you lost the ground for them.

It looks like they were not working before you changed them, correct?

Did you replace them with incandescent bulbs of the same generic part number?

Did you check fuses in the fuse boxes? I don't know if they use a separate fuse, but some folks here on the Forum will know and chime in.

I know that the socket is small, but have you tried to get the probes of a volt meter into the socket and onto two contacts to see if you are getting voltage to the sockets? You may have a broken wire leading up to the sockets.

I changed them with the part number bulbs. I checked the wires with a volt meter and everything works fine just isn't lighting the bulbs.

Something seems off. If you checked the socket with a meter and it checks out then it must be the bulbs (which is odd if you bought new ones). Either way I’d order some LEDs and give them a try. They look better then stock and may solve your issue.

It could also be a bad ground or the bulb or socket contacts; can you bend the bulb wires out slightly to see if they will make contact?

How much voltage did you measure?

Also, measuring the voltage with no load (just your VOM) can be misleading if a ground is bad or a wire has worn through and can't deliver the power to a full load. You could use some alligator clip jumpers to complete the bulb circuit and measure the voltage with the load on.

Are they LED? If so, flip them over. Could just be polarity.
