Figured out my crappy radio reception problem, which was the mast antenna wasn't solidly connected to the threaded base. Because the antenna didn't have any threads in it. At all. It has been just sitting on top held down by gravity. So I went out to the PnP only to discover all the GM OEM antennas are a smaller size, my base measured 7mm, the OEM's are probably 5 or 6mm. Ordered an adapter so I hope it works out, I'm sick and tired of monkeying with this radio BS. Not nearly as bad as my old '78 Econoline, which must've had 5lbs. of hippie meth wiring in it.

Was out driving tonight and the truck is doing the weird headlight thing again. Sometimes the lights don't turn off - I noticed the parking brake either being on or engaged when turning the lights on might have something to do with this. They go off when the truck's off at least. Then my back barn door wouldn't close right after getting some equipment out. Because I park on a bit of small incline.

Took a longer datalog for secondary O2's, which started dipping again. (Although does not have a continuous low section near startup)
False hope, when the sensors were first installed, they must have been less sensitive to oxygen readings. Maybe manufacturing residue burned off..

45 seconds for O2's to get going..
2ndO2warmup.png

About 8 minutes in with several idle minutes (cursor line, engine fully warmed up) the cats start smoothing the O2 signal.
2ndO2warmcat.png

Driving around, O2 signal still dips periodically.. (approx every 55 seconds)
Sometimes dips more (left side), sometimes less (right side, due to following WOT event?)

25 minutes at an in&out drivethru.. Nice and stable...
2ndO2drivethru.png

Well, so long as I don't get a code again...But I only got the code once before..
The signal sure dips at times, and bank 2 does dip considerably more at times than bank 1..

I have the lid / rubber insert, that is also a fast charger as you lay your phone on it. ( it has an ‘on-off’ button, and it fits like an OEM pad. Made by Boost Auto……. Well made…. includes an EASY power / plug-into - harness adapter ( access from behind your rear control console panel ).
Do you have a link to that?

I noticed, a few months ago, that my front passenger speaker was blown. But, do to ripping my achilles tendon from my heel -- and the associated surgery, recovery, and therapy -- I didn't get to doing anything about it until this week.

I tested the setup: Right front blown; left front whisper quiet... Left rear had nothing; right rear had nothing; not sure about the sub, but I'd bet money it's got nothing either.

I bought a new amplifier, because I didn't want to have to only buy 2 Ohm speakers. I found a decent Rockford Fosgate on FB and bought it. But I was running out of time, so I took it to the local radio shop to have it installed, and I bought speakers from them, to replace the fronts.

When I first got it back from the stereo shop, the left and right were swapped in the front, and sound came from nothing else. So I had them fix it... They fixed it.

Right and left, front were correct now, but they said my used amp wasn't outputting on channels 3 and 4. Further, they hadn't even properly reseated my dash face, and my interior lights wouldn't turn off.

The guy came out to the truck, pushed the dash face back in (I did=cked with that thing for several minutes before giving up) and when he did that, the interior lights turned out. Well, later that day, I discovered they introduced a short, likely in the door; the interior lights turned on automatically, then turned off shortly after.

I do not believe the short is with the open/close sensor, because I didn't get a DIC warning message. So now I have to trace that down.

I'll get the rears fixed, I hope, in the next few weeks. And verify the amplifier. For now, the Kenwood head unit, Alpine speakers, and the amplifier will blow me out of the car starting around 6 on the sound dial...

Almost forgot! I got the brakes replaced -- rotors, holders, pads, and I got new brake lines in the front. The original ones were cracked! My mechanic assured me the other lines were all good and did not need to be touched.

He fixed the alignment which had gone nasty, too (per my request).

Passed smog today!
My buddy told me EVAP does NOT have to be ready to pass smog..

Wasted $50 on evap solenoids.. Maybe I should return them..
But maybe I'll just install them anyways..

that would be a state to state deal. i know here everything must be ready or they instantly fail you. my camaro needs to get inspected. i had just flashed a small gear shift change the other day, so i checked and the o2's are not ready yet. messed up part is i only flashed the tranny, not the ecm. anything else that matters is deleted...

Yup, although being in California, I would assume we have stricter requirements than most.
The O2 and cat tests maybe more critical than the EVAP code..
We still can't have a 'failed' evap, but 'not ready' is apparently fine..
I also wonder if the requirements are different between makes, since it seems these Chevy's take awhile to satisfy the EVAP test..

YEP, I see certain exclusions for particular years/models.. Since you are in NJ, it looks like you can have EVAP not ready and pass..(Or O2's!)
Possible you had two codes not ready? And it looks like the cat and O2 are grouped in 'non-continuous', just like the evap..

Below copy and pasted from here https://dep.nj.gov/stopthesoot/obd-ii-information-and-assistance/#1603458759690-3fc7c84f-f2bb
--------------------------

There are two types of monitors in a vehicle:
  • Three continuousmonitors:
    • Fuel System Monitor
    • Comprehensive Component Monitor
    • Misfire Monitor
  • A varying number of non-continuousmonitors including:
    • Catalytic converter efficiency monitor
    • Evaporative system monitor
    • EGR
    • Oxygen sensors
    • and more.
These monitors perform checks on specific emission-control related systems. They have three states:
  • Ready
  • Not Ready
  • Unsupported
A vehicle of model year 1996-2000 is permitted to have a maximum of two non-continuous monitors not ready. Vehicles of model year 2001 and newer are only permitted to have one non-continuous monitor not ready. The three continuous monitors must all be ready in order to pass inspection.

all i know is if anything is not ready they fail us in my county. (scanner commies lol ) ive failed for the evap not being ready for sure. but at that point i knew it was not ready went to fail cause the fail sticker gets you 30 days more time. but tint, bald tires, exhaust leaks, missing or broken mirrors, cracked windshield, turn signals, heads lights, brake lights out you name it all just get over looked. the pre obd2 cars, omg they plug into that car like nothing you ever seen, sniffer in the pipe wires and crap plugged in under the hood to the engine. takes way longer too. im pretty sure i did read some where older then 96 might be straight up exempt. but around here they love handing out inspection sticker tickets cause they are over 300 bucks these days. and even if exempt cops use the simple pull over to find more wrong doing. so its likely worth it to inspect the older cars too. no need to talk with 5-0 unless you have too.

I used to do inspections for DMV in Eatontown. All monitors must be ready, if not you fail. They also test your gas cap. Cars at least 25 yrs old are exempt from inspections. All cars going through inspection must drive over a camera to make sure there's a cat under the car. Now it doesn't matter if there's no brakes, smashed windshield or anything else wrong--as long as there's no CEL, and all monitors are ready--you pass. Back when I was a kid inspections were completely different. They used to put your car through hell.

About three years ago I bought my Yukon with the intension of eventually towing a boat. I've spent the last few years refreshing the truck preparing... fluids, suspension, etc. this weekend I finally bit the bullet and pulled our "new" to us boat. The Yukon did great! It felt confident and pulled and stopped the boat with ease. I could feel the boat back there but it never felt like it was in control.

Engine temp stayed normal and the trans temp only rose about 10 degrees while towing. Backing it in the driveway is where temperatures started to rise but still safe. The only issue was that it looks like a small power steering leak really showed through and is now bigger. That will be addressed before the next tow.

I don't post much but thank everyone for the details and assistance through threads and direct questions. This confirms this truck was the right choice for the job!

well if your gonna get a pontoon boat get the biggest one you can find! thats a big one. enjoy it. theres gonna be some memory's made on that thing.

id toss some air bag helpers in the coils springs. they will keep the ass end up higher and level out the trailer frame for ya. and improve the ride when towing.

It's been about 3 weeks, but I replaced my original throttle body assembly with an OEM/GM unit. No real reason, other than I have a bit of a lag from a standstill I thought might have been tied to a bad spot in the TPS after 20 years, but no change in throttle response or behavior. I'm really impressed with that original part! I cleaned it up as best I could and will mothball it just in case I decide to use or sell it later.

Pics of the original unit after 21 years and 297,000 miles:

Gave her a bath, and picked up some bags of gorilla hair mulch to freshen up the back yard borders. Will need a few more trips, since I buy only as much as I feel like spreading out that day. Besides that, then I get to drive the Hoe more often.

That picture is deceiving with the angle. It's 24'. I wanted to avoid starting small then getting the itch to go bigger. The family is looking forward to having some fun with it!

Good points on the springs. I'm still trying to figure out the route to take on the suspension. It's original and rides like crap at the moment, very stiff. I'm not sure if I want to replace the factory air bags shocks or covert to a standard setup. The whole front end has been updated with the exception of the shocks. That's the next big project.

For $95 it doesn't look bad, but we'll see how long these cats last before I get the rattle can sound. And I just might be ready to turn the key on this sucker tomorrow too! Maybe
