what type of HID Lights is everyone using on their NBS YD

Doing a retro on a NBS Denali is fairly easy-you don't even have to take apart the lights. There is an adapter plate you need to buy and a few other things but is one of the cheaper retros around.

You can do a PNP kit too but the factory headlight uses a halogen projector and light output with HID's is not that good. Trust me I know.....

Any reference or tips for setting the distance (up/down/left/right). Say if you park 5' from a wall and measured the cutoff to the ground and width of the 'half moons'. That make sense?

PS: Using generic 55w WYH stamped in the Yukon with aftermarket halo/projection housings (Illustrated above) They don't last long unless you waterproof them yourself.

Using 55w OPT 7 (in the Tahoe) they're great and last a long time!

You really can't aim them well that close. I do mine at least 25 ft away. You want the center of the step to be centered with the center of the projector from left to right. Or else as they get closer and further ie on hills they will move from narrow to wide or other way around.

You want to make sure the higher part of the step is 2 inches lower than the center of the projector up and down. Thats a starting point, from there you drive and see if your light is beaming in people's side mirrors on average height cars. If it is then lower them some more so you don't blind them.

Currently using 3 DDM kits. (Lows - 6000k, Highs 4500k, Fogs 3000k) I will be doing a quad retrofit this winter with Morimoto Mini H1s from TRS. Probably go with 6500k on that. Not sure yet. Doing a retro on moms sequoia for Xmas with 5500 so I'll see what hers looks like when I'm done.

Purchased a set of aftermarket projector housings off ebay for around $120 that were already designed to fit my vehicles. Couldn't be happier with the way they look and light output compared to stock on either set.

At first I went the route of $19.99 bulbs/ballasts combos (as seen below) and am starting into the higher end stuff. Biggest problem with cheap ballast I've found is that even when waterproof and shockproof is advertised - they most certainly not. Make sure they include warranty. Opening each failed ballast (10+) I've found either a broken solder point or corrosion. I've since had had many cheap generic kits that stood the test of time by waterproofing their internals with liquid electrical tape. Coating and re-coating also helps prevent the wires from breaking off the solder points. Other than the fog ballasts being zip-tied I've never "mounted" the hi or low ballasts inside either truck.

I've got plenty of known good ballasts, housings, & bulbs I've accumulated over the years. PM if interested.

Housings:
(2) used OEM Headlight housings removed from 2005 Chevy Tahoe
(2) used OEM Turn signals 2005 Chevy Tahoe
(2) used aftermarket Yukon Headlight housings clear/chrome with Angel Eyes
(2) used OEM Yukon turn signals removed from 2001 Yukon

Ballasts:
(10) 55w HID slim ballasts - Brand new never been used or used/tested
(10) 35w HID slim ballasts - Brand new never been used or used/tested
(3) 35w True AC HID ballasts

(4) 9006 - 5000k (White) HID bulbs
(4) 9005 - 5000k (White) HID bulbs
(4) 9005 - 3000k (Yellow) HID bulbs
(2) 9006 - 3000k (Yellow) HID bulbs
(4) H7 - 4300k (White OEM) HID bulbs - never used
(2) 9004 - 4300k (White OEM) HID Bulbs
(2) 9004 - 15000k (Deep Blue) HID Bulbs bi-55w halogen (hi-beam)
(1) 9004 - 6000k (White/blue) HID bulb
(1) 880 - 3000k (Yellow) HID bulb

I'll warranty each bulb or ballast for 30 days
