Hey Tony. How do PVD wheels hold up to salt? How would you rank them compared to factory clear coated wheels in regard to durability? What is the finish warranty? Thanks.

They are good in snow/salt. I would spray them down with water and use regular soap to clean.

Sallt causes chrome to crack peel and pit while PVD resists such effects

I have American Racing PVD now..... they will stain from salt and can peel.....

With that said.... they are easier to powder coat later vs. real chrome.

yes american racing thats why. Also factory reproductions has a 2 year warranty on finish not 1 year like everyone else. They have a better overall process thats why.

I bought a new Silverado with the 18" Z71 wheels and I want to sell those and put on some 20's with some nice all terrain tires. I am sick of storing and swapping the chrome wheels I had on the Tahoe every fall/winter, so I need something that will hold up to crappy weather.

Sorry but my factory reproduction wheels came with the copper showing through the chrome in the lug holes brand new out the box. They gamble the fact that nobody is going to dismount their rims to send back and leave their car without wheels. All wheels will suffer from salt no matter what finish they have. Aftermarket has no business in the salted roads period no matter what the warrantee. Best you can do is treat them and keep them clean.

Black chrome has a tendency to discolor over time. When it does it still looks good just darker or lighter than originally did.

Joe when did you buy the wheels from me? 2 year warranty applies and thats why i tell people to check wheels before the mount. IF there is any issues the guys at FR are great to deal with. They will send another wheel out and issue call back tag. I sell a lot of these wheels and only case ive seen warranty not get covered was a wheel was curbed to heck and they said the chrome peeled above curb marks.

Anyway back on topic wheels should be here in 2 days so ill start shipping out then

Seems like a bad practice on part of FR.

This is disconcerting because I had my mind set on TBSS reps..... just that if such a practice exists..... makes me wonder about other things.

I dont think any other vendors ask to check the wheels. I always ask because last think i need is someone saying i sold them a bent wheel or a cracked wheel or peeling wheel.

If there is a warranty complaint like stated above the guys at factory reproductions are great where as other companys ive dealt with said well they have to pay for shipping both ways then we can see what we will do.

THat being said i only stick to factory rep wheels.
