Thanks Motorwerks.

On a side note, pretty cool business you got going along with a nice website. Hopefully someday I can visit during my travels.

I pulled up next to a 2015 Denali at a red-light today. I rolled down the window and handed them a print out of this thread. They got out of the car and just abandoned it right there at the light.

Motorwerks-
My truck will be here in 2 weeks. Not sure what to do. I don't need a truck until December. Based on what you know, do you think I would get it in December? I called another dealer and he didn't know really anything other than it had 8 sp on the computer but he wasn't able to select it.

Hi Kelly,
I'm not able to send a PM regarding our order. I guess I haven't been a member long enough. What I'd like to know is why our order went from 3400 on 8/18 back to awaiting production on 9/1.
Thanks

call GM customer support off their website.

It is not uncommon for vehicle status to bounce back and forth.

It's likely that GM has pulled the order forward to produce it as a 2015i. If so, you should find out an updated status by next week I would imagine. I do know that orders placed after August 14 are being pulled forward for 2015i production.

Otherwise, it could be possible that it's being produced next month as one of the last 2015s being slated for production in September before the switchover on Oct 6th.

Can you contact your dealer to see if the order can be resubmitted for acceptance next week so you end up with a 2015i unit instead?

I've been on the phone today with about 4 different dealers in the area asking when I could come place an order for a 2015i version.

One of them hadn't even heard that the Yukon Denali is getting the 8 speed. He insisted that the current shortage of Denali is related to a part for the rear differential being in short supply.

Another told me that the current short supply is because GM didn't have enough of the wheels that come on the Denali. She was unsure as to when the 8 speed could be ordered.

One wasn't interested in picking up the phone.

The fourth knew the 8 speed was coming and said that they didn't have pricing yet but would know something "soon." This was after I spoke with a different salesperson who kept insisting that I must be confused and must be talking about the 6.2 v. the 5.3.

I gotta say, it's not unusual for me to be more knowledgable about a car I'm about to buy than the salespeople, but this has got me shaking my head and chuckling.

That's interesting stuff. What's the current 6 speed's first gear ratio?

Let me tell you something....EVERY one of these franchised dealers received the same or similar email that my dealer GM received. They're either really lazy and haven't really read it (somewhat possible), they have an existing inventory of 2015s that they would like to sell (more possible), or they're simply lying and acting aloof so that you place an immediate order (very possible and likely and shows their ignorance since previous 2015 orders are NOT being taken any longer after August 14 anyhow).

Thanks motorworks,
I did contact her today. She is looking into what's going on and will call me back. I'm planning to ask her about resubmitting. I do hope that GM pulled it to be a 2015i. If that's the case I don't mind waiting longer to get it... hot part of summer will be winding down in a few weeks, guess I can withstand it. we are going to ask for a loaner since they already have my trade in.

If it ends up being a regular 2015 I will ask for a discount :)

Thanks again

Yeah, that's what I've been assuming. I've heard through a guy who works for GM and is a regular contributor on the Airstream forum that the dealer should have the info and ability to order on 9/4 which apparently coincides with the opening of the first ordering round for Q4.

The most intriguing thing to me was that only one of them knew that ordering is suspended for the switch to 2015i. All the others had some story about some other part. They also all wanted to find out what color I wanted so they could see if they could find one in the existing inventory for me. The one guy who seemed to know what he was talking about was the dealer who does the fleet ordering for the GMC/Peterbilt dealer.

I'd like cars a lot more if it didn't mean dealing with car dealers.

4.03 on the 6L/80 vs. 4.56 on the 8L/90. This article has even more detail (for the gearhead) and a table with the ratio differences:

http://www.greencarcongress.com/2014/08/20140821-8l90.html

and here (officially) by GM:

http://media.chevrolet.com/media/us...g/0820-8speed/0820-corvette-8-speed-lead.html

That's good stuff. Better response from stop is always appreciated but I'm mostly looking forward to the thing having more options for those times when I want a little more power but don't need it to shift into the lowest possible gear.

That's exactly right. They stopped taking orders for 2015s back on Aug 14 and are basically just producing closeouts through October 5. Order banks are currently closed until September. Basically, once an order can be placed, it's a 2015i for October 6 production. I would probably wait until after the banks are reopened in September to place an order. Otherwise a dealer could conceivably "take an order" only to be giving a customer an already "previously placed order" that happen to match one's specs. This would result in someone getting the closeout model vs. a 2015i.
