Bought a 2003 Tahoe LT

Hello, I'm new to the forum! Just wanted to introduce myself and my ride. I was looking for a larger vehicle (I'm 6'4") and I came across a 2003 Tahoe LT. It only had 137k and is loaded out with every option. The exterior is in good shape, but the interior is in need of a good cleaning. I bought it for $4700.

I cleaned the interior to the best of my ability. The carpet needs to be pulled and washed thoroughly. The drivers side seat is torn badly so I'm in search of a junkyard replacement.

I've had it for two weeks and so far I have:
- Replaced the plugs and wires.
- Changed the oil, put on new wipers.
- Changed out air and fuel filters, cleaned the throttle body.
- Replaced all the burnt out bulbs in the front.

My to do list includes:
- Transmission filter, fluid, and solenoids replacement. Right now the transmission shifts a little late going from 1-2 (up to 2200RPM with some whirring noises).
- Coolant flush.
- Oil Pressure sensor replacement (needle is buried to 80psi)
- Replace tires and windshield.
- Replace both belts.


I have a couple codes popping P0430 and P0332. I'm not sure if I need new cats, how can I test mine? I cleaned the engine off (it was covered in dust, the owner lived on a dirt road) and the P0332 code came on. I think I got water on/in the knock sensor. I know that's a lot to cover in an intro, but those are my plans.

Welcome. And hope you love your new GMT 800 for many years! For the seats also look at a company called Katzkins ! I would also service the rear end too, check the shocks , Hubs, inner and outer tie rod links, pitman and the idler arm! If it needs new front brakes look at getting the (NNBS) 2007 and up front brake calipers and rotors are a direct swap. I would go with rotors from R1 concepts. That's for the front only! Also one of the members was selling front seats outta a 2003-2006 new never used in the forsake forum. I believe his Username is sand performance .

Here's a link to a new bottom seat cover (I'm assuming you have leather). You'll have to look for more colors if this isn't yours but it's a lot cheaper to buy a new cover than a whole seat! And you can also find the upper cover as well. And there's some how-to videos on YouTube.

Another thing I noticed was that the hourometer said it had 10,989 hours on it! That's high hours for only 137k. Maybe the previous owner lived in it! Haha

Well that didn't last long, I totaled it on the way home from work Friday. Crappy tires + water = skidding into a tree. I'll be buying another Tahoe/Yukon soon. I came out unscathed, awesome engineering!

I haven't even made a payment yet!

I've been looking at a 2003 Escalade that has 155,000 miles on it. It's in better shape than my Tahoe was, with a few more miles. The asking price is $6900, I'm sure they'd take less. Thoughts?

The plot thickens. My insurance company contacted me to ask me a few questions this afternoon. They pulled the CarFax for my vehicle and it stated that in March 3, 2014 when it went to auction it had 229,000 miles on it. When I bought it from the used car dealer it had 137,400...WHAT? I had to have a recorded phone call with my adjuster to verify all the details of my case.

Looks like I got hit by a fradulent dealer. Insurance is looking into the matter. Lesson learned for me, always get a CarFax BEFORE purchasing a used vehicle. The $50 will save you more than just a headache down the road.

The Carfax is worth it. A month ago I bought a 2002 Tahoe LT Autoride. It came from Virginia and I was skeptical about it. It all checked out good so far.

No worries. After insurance settled 2 months later, I doubled my money. I was able to buy a MUCH nicer 04 Yukon and finance the same amount.
