What's up guys. I decided to start one of these progress threads since I'm always working on cars & projects are NEVER really done. I've got many, many plans for this SUV so I hope to have tons of fun with it & post everything on this site.

I tend to do these progress threads on forums I belong to with my other cars.

So my first post is this one. Pictures of the truck when I brought it home this passed weekend. 6/16/2013. These are the same pictures I posted on my previous thread.

Today I started peeling off that nasty chrome crap that the previous owner has installed. I got the chrome covers off the mirrors & off 2 of the door handles. I also got most of the door moldings off & started taking off the double sided tape using the eraser wheel. Let it be known. It's a pain in the @ss. Not fun at all but it gets the job done!

Then I washed her up & polished the sections I finished today. Way, way, way cleaner look. Reminds me of the Trailblazer SS. Yukon SS? Hmmm... :hmmm2:

Here it is with the front section nice & clean including the removed chrome side view mirrors. It still has some glue left in a couple spots that I will perfect once the entire truck is done. Tomorrow I'm doing the back doors. Let's see how fast I can get this done.

Nice work Alex! Already looks better. Can't wait to see what you do next. Be careful, there are alot of mods here that will empty your pockets.

Empty pockets, lol... Look... Just as long as my wife doesn't read these threads were good. :yaoface2:

I just spent $3,400 on the Lincoln Mark VIII shown below on my signature & just like all other projects, it's far from done. I'm completely out of budget until the fall since I have a couple weekend trips planned for end of summer but that doesn't mean that little things here & there can't get done like rejuvenating my leather, new front park lamps (mine have water coming in), new LED tail lamps or I might go with the cheap replacements that look like the LED's but just use regular bulbs. I think they still look better than the stock ones I have.

I want to buy these...

but I can buy these tomorrow morning! :laughing1:

& they have that clean, more modern look!

The first ones you posted are like mine but mine are clear, not smoked. They are one of the most popular aftermarket tails on this forum. They look good and have built in resistors so they don't mess with the cruise control. See, the fever has already started, lol.

You're making good progress so far by taking a lot of the chrome stick on stuff off :waytogo: Once you get done taking stuff off and cleaning her up what are your plans?

Well like I said, immediate plans is replace the tail lamps for a nice LED set, swap park lamps for new ones, just restore the leather, pull out the entire carpet. My carpet is disgusting. It looks like the previous owner dropped menthos in a coke bottle inside the truck. It's stained EVERYWHERE! I might replace it with black carpeting. I like black because it hides a lot of the spills.

Anyone know a good carpet replacement website besides ebay? I already did this very same project on my F-150 back in 2009 & a 93 Linc Mark VIII in 2011 so I'm not new to pulling out full interiors.

I'm also dieing to get rid of my wheels. I want OEM 2007-2012 Tahoe LTZ wheels or Denali wheels. I may consider Escalade wheels but they don't tickle me as much. I already placed an ad on Craigslist.

I'm selling the set w/new tires for $1,100.

My future plans is just to go with a full Denali kit & do a custom 2 toned black on grey interior w/the word YUKON on the headrests. My current interior for some reason has tannish greyish seats (if that makes any sense), the upper half of my dash is grey while the lower half is tan. I've looked at other Yukons on line & seen this is a popular combo. I'm not digging it much.

I'd like to find the interior door panels that say "Denali" on them as well.

Lastly, a nice double din needs to replace that ugly OEM stereo.

Good progress so far. Are you going to take off the aftermarket chrome handles? It would clean it up a lot of everything was just black :imo:

Yeah I explained it in one of my earlier posts. Chrome handles gotta go for sure. In fact it can be seen in the picture below. Both back door handles have been removed. Still a work in progress though.

Finally removed all chrome that was left on the truck. Left the handles for now. I'm on the fence about them. I think I like them just a tad. When I get bored of them, out they go too!

Not shown in the pictures above, I took off all the double sided tape from the handles & took the truck to get the interior shampooed & detailed. WOW! I'm speechless. I will post pictures of what the truck looks like now tomorrow.

Now, do any of you have a spare gas cap that you want to get rid of? I'm thinking of painting mine black but I just can't stand it. :rage:

I like what you did with your gas cap. i may just do the same thing to mine. Pull out all the allen screws, paint it black to match & leave the screws as is. Hmmm... Regardless let me know if you find your gas cap.

Can't seem to find it anywhere. If I was you I would just sand the chrome and plastidip it and leave the screws like you said.

Well, from the last time I posted on this thread I've done a couple things...

Replaced the ol' rear shocks. Turns out the driver's side rear was completely locked up.

Installed some nice 5.3L VORTECH decals on both back windows. Also had my windows tinted at 20% all around making my 4 rear windows extra dark. I did NOT tint the rear door. It wasn't necessary.

Painted the billet gas cap in black just as mentioned. Left the screws in alluminum for that rugged look. I love it more than OEM. Hell & it beats the ol' nasty lookin cap.

Ok just thought I'd share, next obstacle is a thing of the past. Previous owner, tossed the fog lights on my Yukon. That or they stole them. The truck has no accident damage so I can't understand why they're not there. Whatever the case, I ordered myself a set last week & got them in the mail on Tuesday. Installed them today! :)

How about removing the pinstripe?
Would look waayy better IMO

Oh I agree 100% but I plan on painting the whole truck anyway so I might as well leave it on. In Miami it's beyond hot/humid through this month so unless it's really necessary, I'm pretty much done! lol

Looks much better with the empty spots filled with brand new fogs! Just a tip, you might want to run a bead of silicon around the lens. I hear of so many of them letting water in.

You just made me feel like a "****" lol... I thought about it twice before installing them... only because they were so cheap & I knew deep inside that they may be prone to humidity issues but I wanted to see them on the Yukon so badly that I installed them anyway.

So guess what I'm doing tomorrow!
:)

when I bought new ones for my 01 Tahoe and my 04 Escalade, I never siliconed the new one. Mine were TYC and they were fine. I think it's just something about the silicone from the factory...
