~So I watched a big tanker truck EXPLODE! **PICS**

So i'm sitting in this parking lot tralking on the phone... I look over my left shoulder and see this:

This is about 2 1/2 miles away

So I tell my bro that I gotta go check this out and I start driving towards the smoke.

As I'm driving up on it.. the damn thing explodes!

1 mile away

I fight my way through traffic and park on the side of the road and got out of my truck.. it just happened so there were no cops holding anyone back..


1/4 mile

Here they are trying to get the driver. Here's the sad part.. the firemen said as they pulled up on scene and got out of the fire truck.. they saw a man crawling out from the middle of the firestorm COMPLETELY ENGULFED in a JP-5 fuel fire. JP-5 is Naval jet fuel. It's basicly diesel fuel with a higher flash point.. The fuel was still liquid on him..

The firemen had to spray him down for several seconds to get the fire off.. imagine the pain...

Here they are going to get him

Here's all that was left.

The guy died in the hospital the next morning.




Sad story.. but very 'exciting' to witness...

Biggest fire i've witnessed. You could feel the heat from several hundered feet away. It burned for a solid 30 minutes. Just sucks it had to end in tragedy.

that reminds me of the tractor trailer that crashed up here carrying a bunch of beer. I had ridden by about 2 hrs afterward, and i could smell the beer that had spilled.

prayers go out to that driver's family. definitely sucks.

Only things I've ever "seen: worse than that were was when the natural gas pipeline erupted in Edison, NJ (not my vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyMbaZ9FVjA) and when an oil tank at the Hess Refinery caught fire in Sewaren, NJ

Wow, when I was running a hen house on a Tender, one of the girls thats worked in my shop lived off Jefferson. Left Norfolk in 95, went back to visit some friends a couple years ago, man did things change, got to smell the smoke off the dismal swamp that summer.
