So about a week and a half ago my tire pressure light came on. I checked and my tires' PSI were all in the mid 30s with one at 33PSI. Stopped at a gas station and filled them all up to about 40PSI (I believe the tires recommend 44PSI max). Problem is, the light on my dash hasn't turned off. Any idea what causes this or how to reset it so it will turn off?:emotions122:

You should drop the pressure. The correct pressure is on the door placard "driver side" door jamb. Do not go off the number on the sidewall that is not a recommendation it's a maximum operating pressure. The sensor should reset it's self with in a few minutes if pressure is set accordingly.

True. Keep in mind that the tpms are most likely programmed to the manufacturers recommended psi, not the tire manufacturer. I'm not sure if those get updated when you buy new tires though (assuming the psi rating changes)?

Ah, wow. When the light came on I had one tire at 33psi and the rest were 35-38 so I just assumed the 33 one was low, rather than the 38 being high. Thanks for pointing out the door placard--I didnt realize it was there and it recommends 32psi. I lowered them quickly by hand so I've got the rears at 34 and the fronts at 33 right now, and I'll finish tweaking them down to 32 tomorrow. Tire pressure light is still on though, so hopefully it'll reset by morning.

So I drove about 3 miles this morning already and the light is still on. After driving a little bit and the tires heating up, three are reading 34psi and one is reading 35psi. It's so weird because I took a long road trip a few weekends ago (about 1,000 miles) and I inflated the tires to between 38 and 40 psi for the trip and the warning light never came on. That's why I assumed a tire must have been underinflated rather than overinflated. I don't know why that would change and suddenly it's warning me about overinflation.

Anyways, I've got about an hour commute to work in a little bit, so hopefully I'll see the light turn off during the trip.

So I just checked the owner's manual and it says this:

"As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressure telltale when one
or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated.
Accordingly, when the low tire pressure telltale illuminates, you should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to the proper pressure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the vehicle’s handling and
stopping ability."

It doesn't seem to mention that the light could turn on due to OVERinflation, only underinflation. I'm really starting to think that there's just a problem with the TPMS.

I would just go through the procedures to "relearn" the tire pressure you have now, there is a step by step in the owners manual. Hopefully that will reset everything for you.

unknown at this time.
it read higher or lower and will light up for either. every 30 second of tire spin will cause a transmitting of pressures and dic will respond accordingly. here is some info to help and a tsb that may apply to you.

Ask your dealer?

Seems like maybe a bad sensor needs replacing?

I was thinking that's possible, but I don't think that's what it is. The sensor will still tell me the tire pressures correctly so it seems weird that suddenly it thinks pressures all the way up to 40psi are too low. The users manual says that if there's a problem with TPMS, the light will flash on the dash for a minute when you start the truck, and then will stay lit. Mine doesn't flash.

Yeah. I've had the truck for about a month and a half, but due to two big roadtrips I've already put 3,000 miles on it so it's gonna be ready for an oil change soon. I was thinking I'd take it to a dealership to have that done and they can look at the TPMS light at the same time.

Keep us posted of the results after your upcoming dealer visit.

I finally got around to unhooking the battery and hooking it back up. Looks like that cleared it. I'll keep an eye on it though.
