Hey all, I am new to the forum and I just got my first car! I now have a white 2005 tahoe z71 and I love it. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on mods to do to make my car stand out a little. I am getting a new radio installed tomorrow, but I am interested in performance/exterior mods. Keep in mind that I am 16 and only have around $800 or so to spend on mods. I am open for any suggestions, but I do not want to do anything to the lights, but other than that I am completely open for any ideas.

Thanks,
Patrick

With that kind of money go get a caí. Should be about $200 then get start saving up for either repairs u may have in the future or a decent lift, tires, and regear. Also get some pics up man

Yeah get a Spectre 9900 CAI on amazon.com for 150 and a muffler can cost anywhere from 50 to 120

And they both will give you better throttle response-mpg gains and sound difference

Here is my Spectre 9900

They now come with a red filter or white or blue on jegs.com

I know it might not be cool or fun, but I would make sure the vehicle is in 100% running order before I went to the aftermarket doo-dads. I am not implying you have a hoopty, so don't take offense when I ask if all the basic maintenance has been performed?

Changing ALL the fluids, plugs, wires, filters, can cost hundreds. I'm not saying everyone, but it is amazing how many people will put mods a on vehicle that has a check engine light, or other general maintenance needs.
Welcome. Enjoy your new truck, take care of it and it will take care of you :)

The ebay intake you find for around 65 shipped works well too. Looks just like the spectre intake but has red couplers.

I think I'm getting a Spectre cold air intake. How much do you think installation for one of these would cost?

It'll take you 30-45 min with a socket set and screwdriver. I did it and I am the least mechanical person here LOL. Just follow the directions or you can find step by step instructions on YouTube.

Idk if i'm aloud to say this here but go join z71tahoe-suburban forums also.
Tons and tons of mods to do. Run a search on whatever you want to do.
Roof rack lights, indashes, leveling how to's.

For exterior:level, larger tires, tint, hids, led reverse lights and/or led tail lights (idk if you meant smoking lights by not touching the lights) brush guard maybe and clean it often.

Don't waste more than 70$ on a cai it doesn't help that much. Try ebay or locally.

I am 100% in agreement with M3PO about getting the truck baselined and in tip top shape. Sounds like you've got most of that done, but here's a few specifics to think about:

1. Transmission fluid. Look good? Smell ok (not funky or burnt)? When was it changed last?
2. Differentials. The seals go out on the diffs pretty regularly on these trucks - they age and weep after a while. My Yukon did it, the Suburban is doing it. When was the last time the fluid was changed? Any gear oil weeping/dripping?
3. The often-overlooked transfer case. They are filled with GM's special brand of lubricant (the blue "smurf oil"). When was it last changed?
4. Brake fluid, power steering fluid, and engine coolant all go bad over time. Think about freshening those systems up to extend their life.

If all of that stuff is good to go, here's my basic 4x4 upgrade list:

- New torsion keys and rear coil spacers to lift the truck 2" or so. Looks good without being overly aggressive and will let you put on...
- Larger tires
- Brush guard
- Off road lights of your choice wired into the factory fog light switch
- Window tint
- CAI of your choice
- Muffler of your choice
- Black Bear tune

You'll be a happy camper with a slick truck!

I am new to this forum and I have heard things about trucks's being BB tuned, but exactly what is it, and what does it do? Sorry this is kind of a newbie question.

Justin and Jenna own the company, and use EFI-live to tune the ECU. There is a remarkable amount of power and driveability that can be gained from one of their tunes. There are several options, check out the website for more info.
